Parking a domain with NamePros takes two steps: you add the domain to your account, and you show us that you control it. That second step is called verification. Until a domain is verified, it shows a basic lander without your settings or seller card, and its inquiries are not emailed to you.
Many domains are verified within minutes of the change at your registrar. This guide walks you through both steps, then covers what to do when a domain will not verify.
Step 1: Add your domains
Go to Add domains and enter your domain names under "Domain names", one per line. There is no limit on how many you add at once. Then select "Add domains".
Two choices sit under the list:
- "Display name casing" decides how each name is written on your lander. "Automatic" picks the capitals for you (e.g.,
BrightOrchard.com) once the domain is verified. "Use what I typed" keeps your own capitals. - "Apply casing to" decides whether that casing also changes domains you added before.
Step 2: Point your domains to us
Next, set a DNS record on each domain at your registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Dynadot). The record proves the domain is yours. Find your records on Verify domains , or on any domain's page that is not verified yet.
Choose one of the three methods. Any one of them verifies the domain:
| Method | What you set | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Nameservers (recommended) | Both nameservers shown under "NS", in place of the domain's current nameservers. | You want the domain to show your NamePros lander. Nameservers verify the domain and park it in one step. |
| CNAME | A CNAME record on www (or on the domain itself, if your DNS host allows it) pointing to the value shown under "CNAME" . | You want to keep your current nameservers. |
| TXT | A TXT record on the domain itself (often written @) or on www, with the value shown under "TXT" . | You want to keep your current nameservers and the domain pointing where it already does (e.g., to list it on your portfolio). |
Use the copy button beside each value. The second nameserver, the CNAME and the TXT values are unique to your account, so they are different from anyone else's.
Not sure how to change nameservers at your registrar? Search its help pages for "change nameservers", or ask its support team. Your registrar can do it for you.
Using A records
We recommend our nameservers. If you cannot use them yet (e.g., your email is set up at your registrar and you do not want to move it now), A records work too, although we do not officially support them:
- Verify the domain with the CNAME or TXT record. An A record says where a domain points, not who owns it, so it cannot verify a domain on its own.
- Set an A record for the domain itself (often written
@) to one or both of these addresses:54.237.57.21and3.233.30.191. - For
www, set the same A records, or a CNAME record fromwwwto your domain.
Step 3: Check the result
After you add domains, you land on that addition's import page. It lists each domain with its verification status and the time of the next check.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Verified | Done. The domain is parked. |
| Retrying | We could not verify it yet and will check again. The reason shows under the domain. |
| Retrying (error) | The last check failed because of an error rather than the domain's records. We will check again. |
| Error | We could not check the domain. Select "Retry verification". |
| Unverified | We stopped checking. Fix the records, then select "Retry verification". |
| Wrong user | The domain's records belong to another NamePros account. |
You do not need to wait on this page. We keep checking on our own for a while, for less time when you add many domains at once. DNS changes can take a few hours to reach everyone, so a domain may show "Retrying" for a while after you change it. If a domain shows "Unverified", we stopped checking: fix the records, then select "Retry verification".
Your domain list
Domain names groups your domains into tabs:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Added | Every domain in your account, verified or not. |
| Verified | Domains that pass verification. |
| Unverified | Domains that are waiting for verification or failed it. Each has a "Retry verification" button and a "View status" button that shows the reason. |
| Detected | Domains that use your records but are not in your account yet. Select "Add" to add one, already verified. |
| Removed | Domains you removed. Select "Add back" to return one to your account. |
If you point domains at your nameservers but forget to add them, they can appear under "Detected". You can also have them added for you with Auto-add domains. Leave it off unless you are sure: with it on, anyone who sets your records on a domain adds that domain to your account.
When a domain will not verify
The reason shows under the domain on its import page, and under "View status" on the "Unverified" tab. Here is what each one means and how to fix it:
| Reason shown | What to do |
|---|---|
| Missing verification keys (e.g., NS record) | The domain does not have your records yet. Set them at your registrar, then wait a few hours. With nameservers, set both of yours: the second one is unique to your account. |
| DNSSEC must be disabled at the registrar | Turn off DNSSEC for the domain at your registrar. Our nameservers do not use DNSSEC, and a domain with it switched on cannot load. |
| Domain has a mix of NamePros nameservers and third-party nameservers | Use one service's nameservers only. See the note below. |
| Nameserver isn't responding or is returning an error | Check the nameservers at your registrar for typing mistakes. |
| Failed to retrieve DNS records (e.g., NS records) | The domain's DNS did not answer us. This can be temporary after a change, and we will try again. Also check that the domain is registered and its nameservers are set. |
| Domain has DNS records that match multiple accounts | The domain carries records for more than one NamePros account. Keep only yours. |
| Domain has explicitly disabled parking | The domain's DNS records say it must not be parked here. If the domain is yours, remove that record. |
| Registry/registrar issue | The domain's registry or registrar does not allow parking here. Contact support if you think this is wrong. |
| Domain can't be used with NamePros Parking | This domain cannot be parked with us. |
Once you have fixed the cause, select "Retry verification" on the domain, or on many domains at once from the "Unverified" tab (how to select many). Still stuck after a day? Contact NamePros Support with the domain name.
