Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Coronavirus stimulus package to exceed $6T, Larry Kudlow says

An emergency stimulus package to bailout the U.S. economy amid the coronavirus pandemic will total $6 trillion — a quarter of the entire country’s GDP, the White House said Tuesday.

Trump administration economist Larry Kudlow said the package would include $4 trillion in lending power for the Federal Reserve as well as a $2 trillion aid package currently being hammered out by Congress.

Included in the package is Congress’ almost $2 trillion emergency bill which, when passed, will issue direct checks for American families, bailouts for the airline industry and a $350 billion loan program for struggling small businesses.

The other $4 trillion will allow the Federal Reserve to make huge emergency bailouts to whatever entity it chooses — a measure that was used to prop-up Wall Street firms from collapse during the 2008 financial crisis.

I note that someone asked for the source of COVID-19 death rate, why don't calculate it yourself? It is just a kid-level math... The figures below are calculated as of the time I write this post:

Global death rate (all cases): 4.5%
Global death rate (closed cases): 14.8%
USA death rate (all cases): 1.4%
USA death rate (closed cases): 67.2%

The global death rate is still in an increasing trend.

That is a good question. You may be right, but I don't know the answer. What I do know is a lot of people cannot begin to understand what is happening. Its to deep for the common person.

It was all very carefully designed to be the way it is, several years in the making i would think

LOL... JBLions is a joke! I put him on my Ignore List about 4-5 years ago. He has this knack of polluting the atmosphere.... a very, very, very irritating character!

Hey I enjoy his posts in many other threads, but I don't participate in other threads anymore, so I'm just trying to stay focused on the situation at hand without endless back n forths about the flu. Anyone still comparing this to the flu in late March 2020 goes straight to my ignore list. Flu talk aside, I know he's a smart guy, but I just ain't got time for flu talk at a time like this.

(To be fair Gilsan, if I were involved in "that other" thread in particular, you probably would've been first on my ignore list long ago, years before JB! and I'm sure I'd be on yours!)

Something of this magnitude would have to be planned for a long time. When people tell me this happened because of bad bat soup, I just smile and walk away.

Oooh boy, here we go, the moment I've been waiting for...... where Russia swoops in to "save the day"

Russia "ready to help" US fight coronavirus

Moscow is ready to help Washington in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak if necessary, according to the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov.

"Our test kits have shown their high quality in China, Iran, have been transferred to Italy. Ordinary Americans should know -- Russia, if necessary, will be ready to help the United States as it has repeatedly offered assistance in putting out fires in California," said Antonov, as cited in the Russian state-owned news agency Sputnik.

How Noble of them, they know the most opportune time is probably coming at peak in a couple of more weeks, when will China chime in and offer the same.

White House, Senate reach deal on massive $2 trillion coronavirus spending bill

“At last we have a deal," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Although the full text of the bill is not yet known, lawmakers indicated on Tuesday that the Republican’s initial proposal for direct cash payments would be included.

Under the plan, people making up to $75,000 a year are expected to receive checks of $1,200. Couples making $150,000 will receive $2,400 with an additional $500 per child. The new agreement removed the phase-in provision that excluded lower-income Americans from receiving the full benefit.

The payments would decrease for those making more than $75,000, with an income cap of $99,000 per individual or $198,000 for couples.

The bill is also expected to include roughly $100 billion in assistance for hospitals, $350 billion in assistance to small businesses to help them meet payroll, $500 billion in aid for corporations, such as airline companies and cruise lines, that have been hurt by the coronavirus outbreak.

Unemployment insurance would also be bolstered to increase payments and extend the benefit to those who typically do not qualify such as gig economy workers, furloughed employees and freelancers.

Jackson Browne Tests Positive for Coronavirus

The 71-year-old Rock Hall of Fame inductee tells Rolling Stone that he has tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently recuperating at his Los Angeles home. “My symptoms are really pretty mild, so I don’t require any kind of medication and certainly not hospitalization or anything like that,” he adds.

How Helping The Neighborhood Could Hurt The Neighborhood.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/24/nyregion/ny-coronavirus-help.html

In the coronavirus crisis, kind gestures like picking up groceries could carry great risk.

As offers of help proliferate across WhatsApp, Slack, laundry rooms and lobbies, and college students band together to grab groceries for older people, elected officials and others warn that selflessness might be putting vulnerable people at greater risk.

“There’s no doubt that New Yorkers want to help their neighbors,” said Carlos Menchaca, a Democratic councilman from Brooklyn, who is asking volunteers to wait for guidance from medical experts. “But before we self-activate, we need to pause and put together guidelines that allow us to do it in a safe way. ”

French coronavirus death tally much higher than official data: hospitals chief

PARIS (Reuters) - The number of people in France who have died from coronavirus is much higher than the official daily government tally, which only accounts for those dying in hospitals and does not include those dying at home or in retirement homes, the head of the hospitals federation said.

“We only know the data provided by hospitals... The increase in the official data is already major, but the absolute numbers would no doubt be effectively much higher if we aggregated what is happening in retirement homes as well as the people who die at home,” Frederic Valletoux, president of the French hospitals federation, said on France Info radio.

More than 170,000 volunteer to help UK fight coronavirus

LONDON (Reuters) - More than 170,000 people have signed up to help Britain’s National Health Service tackle the coronavirus outbreak just hours after a request for a quarter of a million volunteers.

“At times of crisis people come together,” Stephen Powis, the national medical director of NHS England, told BBC TV. “This is a health emergency and we can all play a role.”

I’m sure Russia has been lying about their low numbers.

Glad congress reached an agreement. Glad they decided to treat working poor like other income classes, but $1200 doesn’t go far around here.

It will be interesting to see how they implement UI for freelancers and gig workers. Lots of these people are affected by loss of business. I’m down to one client at one agency - the others were closed as non essential businesses and dropped marketing to cut back expenses. Ones at my other agency are hanging in there ...for now.

Also interesting how the big guys are using their ad spend - hundyai, Toyota and Raymour & Flanagan aren’t open for business here, but are running “soft” ads emphasizing family and safety to remain top-of-mind with their audience.

Good news on my friends husband - Covid test came back negative! Took them days to get the results. They finally sent him home yesterday with a ton of meds. You know it’s bad when you’re glad to find out you “only” have double pneumonia!

Another front line fighter against the enemy has fallen...please take a moment to send prayers and/or good thoughts. Maybe someone should just explain to her and her family that 'it's just the flu'...maybe that will make it all better.
