Hi NamePros,

We’re announcing the launch of the .crypto domain extension on 12/11. 50,000 domains have already been registered. Go to https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=namepros to find available domains.

You’ve probably all heard about cryptocurrency, but may not be aware that new domain extensions are being launched on blockchains. These domains are not part of the ICANN system. They are stored by the owner, with their private key, not by a registrar like Godaddy. No one can transfer a domain or update it other than the owner. If you store website content on decentralized storage instead of Amazon Web Services, then no one can take down your website other than you.

A blockchain domain + Decentralized storage = An uncensorable website

This is the beginning of an entirely new internet built to protect free speech around the world.

Blockchain domain features
  • No Renewals - Pay once and it’s yours ... forever

  • No Custodian - Domains are stored by the owner. No third party can move or update them

  • Payments - The domain can be used as a payment address for cryptocurrencies. Send Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, or any other currency all to the same domain

  • Uncensorable Websites - Attach domains to content on decentralized storage and create an uncensorable website

  • Transfers - Escrow agents aren’t needed. Transfer to anyone in the world in under 1 minute with no risk of being defrauded

We’ll be moderating this thread and we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Yea! I got some claimed as well. The coolest part is the custodianship. It's like owning your own registrar and registry.

How will people pay us using this? I'm still unsure, at the moment it just shows a pop up with my btc QR code... It would be nice to get a website on there as well.. I already see search terms on Google such as 'Blockchain website template' , 'Blockchain hosting'

Theres an option to list your domain for sale but Im not in a rush to do that

For file sharing through a website, I believe the protocol for that is IPFS (InterPlanetary File System).

Where do you see the option to list your domain for sale? I am not seeing that. I am using a different wallet and believe that may be the reason.

In Trustwallet under the domain you have 2 options 'Open on Unstoppable Domains' or 'Open on Opensea.io' ... Opensea has an option to list for sale

I dont have that option with Coinbase Wallet.

@Unstoppable Domains is there differences with .crypto working with different wallets? Do you recommend a particular wallet, etc? Any information regarding would be much appreciated.

Yes, Coinbase Wallet, but I seem to have less features than you do under Trust Wallet. Are you able to list for sale on OpenSea through the 'Collectibles' tab in the wallet? Or is it under UnstoppableDomains 'Manage' section?

It appears this is because Trustwallet has a Ethereum browser built in.... I opened the wallet just for the domain..only pain is more seeds for me to keep safe

I don't know if its a blockchain browser. Can anybody give an example of a blockchain browser/add-on and a blockchain domain with a live website?

I have successfully transferred a .crypto from one wallet to another. The transfer took seconds. No code needed, no lock, no registrar approval, etc.....Literally a few clicks and done!

Full custodianship is really something I can get used to.

In addition, I listed it for sale on the market with only a few clicks.

In other words, these are vulnerable to theft imo. No security measures and no getting a .crypto back once it’s gone.

Crypto Wallets have multi-layer security built in. My .crypto's are safer than any other DNS domains I have. I can point to numerous threads on Namepros about domain theft. It's always a hot topic.

If you are considering which type of domain is safer, in regards to theft, blockchain domains win hands down.

What happens if it gets stolen though? Crypto currency gets stolen all the time. I assume once it’s gone there’s no recovery process?

These are the sort of arguments people say about authoritarian governments, give more control to keep us safer in exchange for freedom. Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

If you have 2FA and passphrase on your wallet your fine

Thats good to know, did you transfer to Trust wallet? I may transfer to Coinbase in future, I might need to PM you for help

Love it! Compliments nicely with blockchain domains. 😀

I do wish Unstoppable Domains offered 2FA for account protection. Note I have read that text-based 2FA is hackable whereas an authenticator app is considered safer.

Make the recommendation to them.

If I remember correctly, before you can make any changes to your domains, you have to sign the wallets (or keys or whatever they are). So, I don't think a simple password to a website would matter. You need to have access to the blockchain, as well.

Note that Coinbase announced a patent to be able to send BTC to an email address connected to BTC wallet.

Can anybody tell me which browser or extension I can use to see blockchain domains and an example domain with a live website?

I tried a few extensions on Firefox and can't find a .eth with a live website.... one extension enables you to see .bit but I didn't check any of those yet

a live .crypto or .zil site would be nice to see as well

Try ViewBlock.io.

I haven't noticed a live .crypto site yet. Surely it's coming soon.

Awesome! Well done!

Did you enter the entire link in the IPFS hash field?

What did you do with the IPFS redirect field?

How long did it take to upload?

  • From pinata.cloud, upload the contents of the website folder (choose the main folder), upload took less than a minute for this simple site
  • then go to the Pin Explorer, copy the IPFS Hash for that site (in case you have uploaded multiple sites)
  • paste that long alpha-numeric code into the box on Unstoppable's website.
  • Save and wait for the updates to be made.

My domain claims are pending from yesterday... Is that ok or too long in your opinion?

Probably too long, the process for me was pretty quick yesterday. Finally! :) Used MetaMask. Try the chat within UD, help comes pretty quick.

Seems to be issues with UD saving .crypto transactions (ie saving hashes), support mentioned should only be about 20 minutes.

Did same as CJ6, except using IPFS Desktop. Uploaded content directly to that.

- Uploaded content to IPFS Desktop
- Copied hash only and inputted into UD hash field
- Left redirect blank for now.

Once inputting the IPFS hash for html content, just doesn't seem to be saving. After an hour, chat support put in a ticket. Several hours later, it finally stopped trying to save the field and allowed saving in the field again. Now it's been over 8 hours again, and the bars still spinning.

There are no .crypto sites in Viewblock yet, how did you find that Concepts.Crypto @CJ6 ? Is it yours, its a nice site. Do we have to use Pinata.Cloud in conjunction with IPFS Desktop, or is it just one or the other?
