RIP George HW - I didn’t agree with him 100%, but he was a kind, decent and honorable person of strong character who loved his country and continued to give back and serve its people long before and after he left office. He brought about the end of the Cold War without firing a shot - much to be said for that.

"You can be political opponents and still work together for something more important than your own political future."

His cautious handling of world affairs sharply contrasts with the laid-back attitude or militarist leanings of some of his successors. Look at where we were and where we are now.

I'll bet many French are sorry they voted for Macron instead of Marine Le Pen...

This is what happens when Government fails the people, Corruption brings civil unrest.

we have in it the USA on a different scale though, the mass shootings and violence that is a weekly occurrence throughout our country, the provoked racism, the media agenda to divide and conquer IMO

It also shows their lack of intelligence and strategy.
This what happens when people gather on facebook and decide to set up unsanctioned demonstrations, without any proper organization or security precautions, then participants start doing stupid things, then hooligans, extreme-left/right come over and spoil everything. The end result is anarchy.
At least two people died a few days ago, not to mention the hundreds of injured and devastation. This is the consequence of amateurism and improvisation.

Besides, the government has nobody to talk to. There are thousands of people shouting and demonstrating across France but nobody to represent them. No structure, no manifesto, no consistent program.
If you want to challenge the authorities, you need to be smart and organized. At least as much as they are.

And this is why revolutions so often lead to governments even worse than the ones they depose. This is exactly what happened in Iran in 1980. They all wanted the Shah out, but the only organized group was the Ayatollah's gang. They moved into the vacuum, and all the sensible people who were so happy to see the Shah go ended up having to flee themselves.

Sensible people tend to to be sensible and compromise with others. Extremists, even in smaller numbers, will usually win out because they will never compromise.

If France ends up with an extreme right wing government, it will be because the current government enabled it by ignoring the will of the people.

HR1, to be introduced in January:

https://apnews.com/21c560f890e74964a05e9e36271a760e

“Political groups would need to disclose donors, and members of Congress would be barred from serving on corporate boards.”
I can’t see anyone objecting to that unless they’re doing or planning to do something dodgy. Ditto for future Presidents disclosing tax returns. It’s about transparency and preventing conflicts of interest and applies to everyone regardless of party.

“The bill would create automatic national voter registration while expanding access to early and online registration. It would increase federal support for state voter systems, including paper ballots to prevent fraud.”
There’s bound to be more discussion about the voting related proposals, though if implemented well, an automatic registration system could PREVENT the types of fraud some seem to think are widespread (voting under a deceased person’s SSN, illegal aliens voting...)

I cant see objections to support of state voter systems or reintroduction of paper ballots except on a “state’s autonomy” principle. The midterms showed which state voting systems are a total dumpster fire. And between wonky performance (the touchscreen machines that unchecked selections if you tried to submit before the screen finished refreshing) human error potential (the district where they “forgot” to deliver power cables with the machines) and hack potential (demonstrated at a recent security pro conference) Theres a strong argument for paper ballots.

Unless you're a conservative and worried about loosing your career b/c the media hates you. Or worried about an ambitious, zealot prosecutor like Kamala Harris deciding she's going to punish your business for having the "wrong priorities".

Get real. That's like saying why do you care if the police are listening to your phone if you're not doing anything wrong.

I agree, Cooler heads usually prevail. these types of attacks only destroy peoples homes, cars and businesses, with most usually no change of outcome for the purpose all that happens.

$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions “could not be traced, ...

The budget was only 18T.

https://twitchy.com/gregp-3534/2018...srepresents-nation-article-on-pentagon-waste/
Is it possible the $21 Trillion covers "missing funds" over the last X (i.e. multiple) years and not a specific year?

Update:
Looks like I may have been correct in my thinking. Just scanned the article from The Nation and saw this,
In all, at least a mind-boggling $21 trillion of Pentagon financial transactions between 1998 and 2015 could not be traced, documented, or explained, concluded Skidmore.

Ps. I thought AOC was from NYC and not the SFV?

You're right but her entire tweet was in context of paying for one year healthcare cost. I believe 18 Trillion was total military budget during that period.

** Now I'm the dummy. 32 Trillion healthcare cost is for 10 years. ( pretty sure ). 18 trillion was the total Pentagon budget from 1789-2018.

1953 interview of Prescott Bush, “the sound dollar, the honest dollar” lol. Wtf look at the devaluation of the dollar since then, he was a banker. Involved with interest rates and public works at same time.

George “a new world order, freer from the threat of terror”. Lol. Farce.

The Royal Scam of the American Taxpayer by Swamp king George the 1st. Invasion of Iraq.

Swamp King George the 2nd, second royal scam and Invasion for WMD b.s.

Then the George the 2nd even jokes about it. What a POS.
A dying veteran comments.

HW Bush was the youngest Naval Pilot in History. When his plane was damaged by anti-aircraft guns, on fire, he finished his mission then ditched in the ocean.

He was an honorable husband and father. He was a good Vice President. He was a good President. His reputation as a humble, kind person was well deserved.

He was generally good. Not a great President. Reagan before him and Clinton, Bush, Obama all served 2 terms. He only served one. Also, the assault stuff at the end. Nobody's perfect.

Trump witness tampering today:

“Michael Cohen asks judge for no Prison Time.” You mean he can do all of the TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things having to do with fraud, big loans, Taxis, etc., and not serve a long prison term? He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get.....

...his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free. He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence.

“I will never testify against Trump.” This statement was recently made by Roger Stone, essentially stating that he will not be forced by a rogue and out of control prosecutor to make up lies and stories about “President Trump.” Nice to know that some people still have “guts!”

Bob Mueller (who is a much different man than people think) and his out of control band of Angry Democrats, don’t want the truth, they only want lies. The truth is very bad for their mission!

HW served one term because the R's had a split ballot with Ross Perot.
