The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There are many VR domains with potential to sell for $100k and even over $1M: (com) VR, VirtualReality, VRp*rn, VRs*x, VRgames, VRarcade, VRapps, VRworld, VRexperience, VReducation, VRbox, VRlive, VRTV, VRheadset, VRvideos, VRtech, VRtechnology + 3&4 letters and so many other combinations.
My bet is that our first 6 figure sale related to VR will happen in 2019 (or 2020, one of them :) ).

We've already had 6 figure VR sales, from my understanding...maybe even a 7 figure if i remember correctly (VR.cn? VR.com? Can't remember)

Well hope your right mate as i sort of have 2 of those on that list, haha!

My bet is that our first 6 figure sale related to VR will happen in 2019 (or 2020, one of them :) ).

At the moment the top 3 VR search terms (Google trends) way ahead of anything else are ”VR P*rn” “VR Games” and “VR Video” – All 3 are potential multi-billion industries and the 3 main categories that is going to be the driving force of VR according research and one of the reasons i went all out to buy one them.

‘VR P*rn’ is way ahead of anything though at this moment, on par with ‘Virtual Reality’ itself as a search term, so if one could be the first to sell for massive amounts, that would be the favorite.

We've already had 6 figure VR sales, from my understanding...maybe even a 7 figure if i remember correctly (VR.cn? VR.com? Can't remember).

The dot com will sell for maybe twice as much...who knows. I think the dot com is being brokered by the same person who is brokering VirtualReality dot com

https://www.thedomains.com/2016/07/07/daily-roundup-7-6-16-vr-cn-sells-7-figures/

VR.S*x and VR.P*rn also sold for $100k each.

Anything.com own VR.com and VirtualReality.com:-

I would not get to excited about investor sales in 6 and 7 figures.
They have nothing in common with real value.
That comes when a end user finds enough value in it to make that investment.
And that comes with a 'expected' return on investment.
You will not get a headline if those investors sell-out for a lower amount in 1-3 years later.

The majority of our names will sell in 3,4 and 5 figures before those category killers find a 'end user'.
But sales are sales I guess. Great if you are the seller !
Just not all of them indicate real value, if any, to your less than cat-killers.
...

While I hold only one MR name (hardware), I think it unwise to trash the WMR platform.
I can find no real reason to do so.
After all, it will be single handedly advancing VR and AR by more than a year in market penetration.
And the speed at which many VR & AR names obtain value.
But I still think many don't get the 'mixed' part of it.
Mixed means VR or AR, but not at the same time. Either Or. Software dependent.
On the 'AR' side of that equation, everything AR developed for those goggles will work with Hololens whenever that shows itself in the market. It's a extremely smart move on MS's part.
To have a bunch of 'ready content' before actual release gives you a advantage over your competitor's.
The extra time waiting allows for a more refined Hololens hardware product. Win Win.
I stand to make a some money from real world investments because I understood that early on.
But I figure most will understand it when they actually see it.
As They Say... Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds You ! - I'm lov'n it anyway.

Them "That's good, whats that called?"

Me "Augmented Reality"

Them:- "You've got that one haven't you?"

:dead:

That's how my convo's go all the time talking about this stuff to people in person, might as-well talk to a brick wall lol.

Apps are even less likely to survive in AR than in VR especially when glasses take hold.

Imagine this: you're walking and you see a bunch of people crowded around a kiosk but you don't know why, because you need to wait till you're prompted to install the kiosks app first lol. Then every other service on the street has a fucking app. Your phone will run out of storage and you'll get tired of installing (and uninstalling) shit all the time.

AR has 10 times more reason to dump the app model than VR does and possibly needs an appless model even sooner than VR...which means the need for domains will be even greater.

One thing I do believe will happen after today's Apple announcement...
Within a week or 2, everyone will know the term AR / Augmented Reality.
(someone fire the start gun)

But don't be surprised if a HMD is both VR & AR (like a WMR) is announced.
Or that someone like HTC is making a VR adapter for the new flagship.
Wouldn't that shock the market ? !!! All hypothetical ! -Kinda hard to see them ignore the VR market.
I will be watching, but for one specific thing only. And nothing exactly to do with the hardware.
Every new core tech they come out with, creates new partnerships and has implications.
Finally, many years of rumors will be put to rest !

10am pst - 1pm est
Watch it live on your Apple device https://www.apple.com/apple-events/september-2017/

Most are not expecting any kind of headset. No leaks have indicated anything headset related about to release, and there are always leaks, even when the apple watch was coming, so don't hold your breath for any major developments beyond 3D scanning on a iphone similar to Sony's or tango on their "x" phone. Not saying there won't be a mobile vr headset. It's not impossible. I just highly doubt it.

Hope I'm wrong though lol

By the end of next year there is expected to be well over 200 million of the new iPhones sold. Even if only half that number of Android phones will be AR equipped by then, and even leaving aside any AR glasses that may be released, that still leaves 300 million AR devices in consumer's hands in just 15 months time.

Contrast with VR headsets where maybe 10 million headsets have been sold so far (inflated due to the Gear VR giveaway with the S7/8), and maybe 30 million by the end of next year (fairly optimistic). And I'll bet a much higher percentage of those phone owners will be using the AR features of their phones regularly than the percentage of VR headset owners using their devices. And then, if not before, the AR glasses market will likely explode in 2019/20 whilst the VR market likely continues it's slow but steady growth.

I quit talking (or trying to explain it) to anyone 6 years ago.
Part of you wants to show-off a good sale but folks again get the wrong impression.
It becomes like a secret society.
But I find it best to explain it as virtual real estate. Buying the premium property before anyone really knows that a new plant is being built nearby. Before it becomes 'premium'.
That has always seemed to work in the general sense. But I don't get into details anymore.
"You can look-it-up online ", I explain.
I think that is why these social forums work well. Absolutely nobody but a domainer understands.
Sometimes even that can be a stretch.... LOL
You have to admit, no matter your years of experience, every time you think you have a handle on this,
something shows you that you have more to learn.

ML is expected to launch beta next year though.... Anything can happen. Could be that Apple would like to beat ML at releasing first, but we all know that's not Apple's style...

Now this is just a hunch but the leaked dual lens camera placement on the new iPhone should be able to replicate Binocular vision for real time AR when worn on the head like the Samsung. A simple headset like the Samsung Gear that doesn't obstruct the dual lenses will give you the best of both AR/VR worlds.

I had been watching those cams early on. I had believed the same for some time.
But the more you look at what they can do, they have multiple applications.
One can be obtaining a visual image while both equating 3D depth data on what is in front of you (it).
To make it work best, they need infra-red illumination.
That helps with facial recognition as it greatly improves the AR in 3D and you can't see 'ir'.
But those ccd imagers see ir better than they see visible light. It has to be filtered out on normal cams.
I had thought Samsung was doing the same for the Note8 but it will emerge with them some time.
Anyway, multiple uses and not all of them may be revealed to us at launch.

You're spot on mate. A simple Infared diode will solve VR tracking in darkness (as long as there's a nearby point of reference) and enhance AR tracking in variable lighting.
