According to Domainpunch, .xyz today dropped 168170 names and is now below 5 million in total. Maybe not much of a news update, but just FYI.
I think everyone expected it. The question is how many will stay registered in about 2 years from now.Was always going to happen.
The total exposure is about 3.37 million for the period of the 1c promotion. It was about 2.8 million regs before that penny promotion.
at this stage most people woudln't even bother with xyz even if it was free.. or the very close to free 1cent promo imo

I will consider regging some when they start paying me

Actually some of them are not doing too badly. The focus at the moment is on the deleting domain names but there are still new domain names being registered in the new gTLDs.who remember .top 168K drop? newgtld losing grounds. .com 4ever
At this stage, 'will' is more likely than 'could'.
The thing is that most people don't realise that the drops are this large. For heavy discounting promotions, the percentage of drops are higher so if the renewal rate comes in around 5% (approximately 168K) it will be doing well.Crazy drop rates!
I knew that the drop would be massive, but I was not sure it would be THIS massive.
I think that the strategy was understood as it had parallels with the .INFO gTLD's early days.I wonder if Negari "knew"?! The 1,1 bil crazy thing seems to be a fiasco.

.Xyz had more names in May 2016, before the giveaway madness started.
