Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

GreenLeaf.com
I'd say that is one of the only 10 leaf names which can command a 5 figure price. "leaf" is a fantastic keyword, but it screams brandable- you can't just jam any old word up against "leaf" and expect it have worth.
Be wary, if the name is available, it has likely been purposefully passed over.

I may be wrong with my assessment, but as the California and Massachusetts rollout of liberal medical and recreational there will be hundreds of thousands of stores, edible brands, extract companies and Grower names, shatter and Vape will be at the forefront of the market. Smoking ( the flower ) is down 42% in Colorado.

Since there are no Trademarks in Cannabis a url is especially important, it is after all digital ownership.

In Massachusetts there is predictions of 2 or more stores for every liquor sales venue. Every small town will have a few stores.

In my home state of Michigan. Unlimited permits ....everything mmj. Branding will be key, even in medical. Bloom in Ann Arbor is a classic example.

As boring as medical names are, they all will go. Any mmjmedical...should all sell.

Leafline.com in Minnesota is a great clean use of leaf.

The great names in 420 and leaf translate to retail. Im also figuring anything with bloom, flora, flores will also translate.

Delivery, drive thru, education, bonded delivery. All will be needed.

Marijuana and Cannabis does not on work on street level. It's redundant and overly used.

The industry is now at %3 to 5%. The other 95% are getting permits and funding for July 2018 in California, similar in Massachusetts.

Yesterday's words in my opinion will in fact be Marijuana and Weed. Being replaced with mmj, leaf, 420 and flower names such as Blooms.

Leaf....I think you mean lmao! Leaf sucks as a keyword. Stick with smarter terms actually used in this niche, and save yourself some money.

The only reason greenleaf has any value is because of of the word green. Green was a hot keyword and it's own niche, popular in the 90s, along with Hybrid, recycle, organic. All burnt out by mid 00s.

Green can be used for the mj niche, but far more, and can stand on its own. Leaf is worthless without the the primary keyword.

I personally think all of the inventory will sell.

There won't be a decent name left after 2019.

Thankfully most of my inventory is in 420 and Mmj some in Cannabis, It will fund the two to three year window on Leaf.

There is no way hundreds of thousands of people go on leafly.com daily and don't make a reference to leaf.

It is the search in cannabis now...

The real demand for urls in this industry is 2018 to 2020. Permitting is just being established as per the election 2016.

Discounting any name such as leaf, is not forward thinking.

Ask Leafly.com what they were thinking?

I'm in Michigan too. Walled Lake just shut down 3-4 dispensaries because pot is illegal to sell. This could very well become a trend.

I wouldn't go heavy on leaf domains. Maybe canna though!

Michigan

2018 July

Seed to sale
Taxable at %?.and local taxes as well.

500,1000,1500 Plant permits being issued, unlimited in nature spefic to local zoning. They began Dec 21st reviewing applications.

Fees for permits are as low as $5g for 500 plants, legal fees around $2500. It's all under $10g.

Unlimited mmj stores, pending local regulations, well as extract permits. There is also a clause for bonded transporters.

A few legal stores in every small town, dozens in cities. Expect 2 cannabis stores for every 10 places that sell beer, wine, or liquor.

On the 2018 ballot there will be a referendum for recreational; think California and Massachusetts.

It's my belief that all the new store's, extract companies, growers . Will need urls. Yes...in all of the typical wordings, but not in Mmj or Marijuana. For they are looking at recreational branding as well.

I have a lot of urls in 420, mmj and Leaf, that may over time evolve. I also think flower store names will be relevant in this market.

Hope this helps for those selling into this region.

Does anyone here know about the Cottage clause in California? And what kind of abilities they will have to set themselves apart from the competition? I would think they will get into branding of Marijuana.

Question: Do people/businesses lease domains in this niche? Do you (or someone you know) lease, and if so, can you give us a general idea on how much per time period?
I've never tried this, and would be curious to become a domain landlord in this niche.

Idea? why lease when potential for getting a bigger piece of the pie lies in Affiliate programs for marijuana? most programs "tag'em and bag'em" for you meaning cookie tracking for 60-90 days so if they come back and buy you get a commission some even will tag'em for you for life and associate all their purchases to your affiliate account..

stack the deck. sign up for a bunch and create a page with all of them on it. Pit one against thee other = $$$.

Virginia Republican introduces bill to end federal marijuana prohibition

A freshman Republican representative from Virginia introduced legislation this week that would end the federal prohibition on marijuana use and allow states to fully set their own course on marijuana policy.

The bill seeks to remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substances Act and resolve the existing conflict between federal and state laws over medical or recreational use of the drug. It would not legalize the sale and use of marijuana in all 50 states — it would simply allow states to make their own decisions on marijuana policy without the threat of federal interference.

...that's great! There are some great domainers that live there.
I still know that Israel has performed extensive tests on mmj and is STILL doing them...

What's the prediction on California issuing permits for stores and growers, both large scale and the Cottage growers.

As well as the volume.

Anyone here have any insight? On the new business that will be looking for branding and urls...

I watch the East Coast carefully, and follow policy diligently.
