I thought I'd start a new break room thread. The great thing about this thread is you can say whatever the heck you want (except adult) and it's ON TOPIC.

All you have to do is post whatever is in your head when you are here. Simple.

Here are some acronyms we like to use:

YPSBT Your Post Sucks Big Time
YPITDB Your post is the dog's bollox
LPOD - Last Post of Day
FPOD - First....
SPOD - Second.
FPOTWN - Funny Post of the Week Nominee

Grace Delete / DefaultUser / WorldsWorstDomainer will personally thank EVERY SINGLE post in this thread UNTIL someone says something about post count and gets too obsessed about reputations and starts gaming the system etc.

Very informative about "puppy mills", surprised about the Amish! Thanks @enlytend!

Of all the breeds of all dogs that were in my life, my faves are the labs/retrievers and the Samoyed husky. Still believe that you have to be a "special" person to have a Jack Russell Terrier in your household. <just my experience, the one that I had was a classic "ankle biter"

Was feeling a little nostalgic, the other day is I made this free GIF

Still wondering about the "SuperBowl" contest on this thread!

Go Packers!
Every dog and cat I ever had was/is a mixed breed. They are my favorites. Generally speaking they are healthier than their famous breeded brothers. Having said that, I would love to someday own a Labrador or a Rhodesian Ridgeback..

Lots of people don't know that - we think of Amish as gentle horse and buggy folks. Some of the most notorious puppy mills around here are Amish - dogs are a commodity, not living beings to them :(.

They can be, because you're unlikely to double up on a bad recessive gene. But things like hip dysplasia occur in all canids and a lot of other things are seen in multiple breeds - without knowing the parents, grandparents, etc. it's potluck.
Highly unlikely to get a dysplastic dog from 4 generations of Goods and Excellents. OTOH, you're VERY likely to see health problems in puppy mill or irresponsably-bred dogs, because the "breeders" don't test and breed indiscriminately.

Rhodesians - very lazy, laid-back dogs, unless they're chasing a rabbit or squirrel.

Just had to google, Rhodesian Ridgeback @GILSAN
Here's why they are called Ridgebacks... the length of hair often growing in the reverse direction along its back.
Rhodesian_ridgeback2.jpg

They are also called "Lion Dogs" and were used a lot for hunting Lions because of their ability to keep a lion at bay while awaiting its master's arrival to make the kill.

The Rhodesian ridgeback is a dog breed developed in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe. Its European forebears can be traced to the early pioneers of the Cape Colony of southern Africa, who crossed their dogs with the semi-domesticated, ridged hunting dogs of the Khoikhoi.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback has also previously been known as Van Rooyen's lion dog or the African lion hound or African lion dog

WOW... that's a lot of different terms for me to understand. You must be a vet in your spare time...

Are you sure Rhodesian Ridgebacks are lazy? That's not the idea I have of them. Perhaps the American breeds are different to the African ones.

I've known a few people who have them. Rhodesians are like most sighthounds - couch potatoes unless they're chasing something. They like to sleep in the sun so they'd love Madeira.

Not a vet, but I'm far from a noob with dog /cat stuff.

Other than TV, have no experience with the Amish! In my neck of the woods, we have the Mennoites (think that is how it is spelled)..Occasionally, I do business with them, baked goods, vegetables etc. Since they don't use electricity, when they buy a place, they gut all the wire (copper) and every now and then, I would buy a few hundred pounds from them. The ones that I deal with, also strip the wire, so it more valuable and less time consuming. Only downfall, is that they sell it at market value. .I just hold for the prices to rise and or sell it across the border for US funds..enough rambling lol

Packers / Cowboys game was outstanding!
Def an E ticket ride.
More drama than the Hawks / Falcons game which I thought would be closer.
Matt delivered. The overs were all I cared about. ;)

Peace,

That's fine, but "will not stop challenging?" Lol.

What's your take on the Persian or Maine Coon?
Maine coons are sweet cats! Persians are nice too, a little more laid back and a lot of work to keep their coat groomed (they mat easily.) My mom had an exotic shorthair, which is a Persian with a medium length coat. Not the brightest bulb in the box :) but she was a nice cat and didn't need the coat maintenance Persians do. Like short nosed dogs, they can have breathing issues Especially when it's hot - they've bred more for that really flat, pushed in face over the years, I'm not a fan of that. Originally they weren't that "extreme."The MC is a more of a "natural" cat.

Ah, I always took Persians to be stuck up cats... which I like in a cat.

They eat food, rub on you when they need a quick pet on the belly, then fend for themselves.

I'm more of a cat person than a dog person because of that. And, those would be my two picks. I assumed a long-haired Persian would need some grooming... but, that's what those salons are for. Take her there and get her spoiled. But, I like the sheer size of the Coons.

Dogs seem to need every waking moment of your time.

Facing as dilemma now. I said I wouldn't censor, but, I received this comment on my blog:

Name: David Walker is another self proclaimed domainer full of shit
Message: David you are just another bullshitter. Go fuck yourself along with your scumbag friends.
Email: [email protected]

I would approve it if the profanity was taken down a notch. I don't think Google looks too highly on that...

Mini Like spree - 8001 @N-A - your new Custom Title is hilarious : smile :

Similar to Maine Coon, I offer the Norwegian Forest Cat. In my teens, a Norwegian off the streets joined my family and was a delight. BIG 9+ kg [20+ lbs] and super calm, just chill and relaxed disposition, he was one of the coolest personality cats I've known or met. Use to sleep in my bed under the covers with head on pillow like a human : grin : Mine had similar coloring to the kitty on the left.

The only challenge was the long hair so we used to get him the Lion Cut, which I think is a good option for managing the fur and nice for the cat in hotter weather. Kitty below not Norwegian.

My first cat was an emergency rehoming turned forever when my BFF enlisted and got called early, all the rest of my cats came off the streets. Several temporary unofficial fosterings too.

Just weeks ago I bought a dot CAT, Catalan registry relaxed their requirements at last - I wanted one for years : smile :

Okay...explain to me, why they would do this to a cat..thought that seeing poodles with dyed fur...etc was "weird"

750b8c89c86fbefe7f0cde4953b01653.jpg

Maybe I can understand doing that cause it has fleas/ticks/other parasites..maybe a skin condition..

Feel like posting a "crazy cat lady" clip from the Simpson's but staying away from Simpson videos cause that @usernamex forte...

Most long hair cats have matting issues and the maintenance is very difficult to keep up, even if you have a cat that likes to be groomed. If you are in a hot climate or just when it is seasonally hot it's cooler for the cat. And even for regular length fur cats, if there is a hairball issue that is not helped by reasonable means, if it can save kitty from persistent gagging, I think it's helpful. Those were my reasons but I found an awesomely named site with more

Not sure how I feel about the Fashion Grooming yet. The one on the right is called the Dragon Cut
