2016 was “Year Zero” for the current wave of consumerization of virtual reality and augmented reality, devices are finally shipping, consumers are buying, and applications are earning. Consider what “Year Zero” was for the PC or the mobile waves of technology adoption, and look at where we are today. 2017 is shaping up to be an early and fantastically productive year for the virtual reality & augmented reality industries.

Edit: Sorry, I just now noticed that there was an AR forum. I posted the question there instead.
Please feel free to answer me there. :)

merged = VR+AR

@Broheim Merged Reality is a new term that was coined by intel this August.
It is describing the evolution of VR in the eyes of intel.
Meaning to bring the real world into the virtual world (seeing real objects like hands in VR) .

If I had to put some of the best VR Experience's in perspective with a few words...
Fantasy Fulfillment
would be the words driving the most successful VR experience's (to my expectations)
Here is one of these example types of experiences I see huge potential with.
https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/07/i-rocked-out-in-rock-band-vr-at-ces-and-i-liked-it/
The thought of being able to play out the fantasy of being a rock star becomes very real with VR.
If it were not so, karaoke would not be such a thing it is.
I have listened to many humiliate themselves without a care and VR only adds to that.

As I have said many times, these are the names of high value in the long term.
And most of them have SOCIAL aspects to them.
Think of the aspects of having a worldwide laser tag championship with room scale VR.
(and never leaving home) You not only get to 'shoot-em-up' you will watch others game play as well.

And.... Some interesting stats and story...
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/vr-porn-big-everywhere-us-711386
Keep in mind when you see those stats that they are from one sites internal search and not google search terms. But interesting story and stats either way.

I'm always sceptical of that site's 'stats'. Not much more than a media marketing exercise. For example each year they come up with some crap such as the most popular category in Nevada is MILF but in Arizona people are mostly into les etc. I doubt very much if tastes vary state to state, and that can be confirmed by Google Trends too.

BTW, it appears that all of the 'Windows Holographic' VR headsets appearing very soon will be capable of some kind of mixed reality :

We really could be on the way to settling this debate (holo vs mr vs ar...) by the end of the year.

This is all getting very real, very fast. In a matter of months everyday people will actually be buying and using holographic headsets.

I like the way the Lenovo headset actually has HOLOGRAPHIC written on it too, to help differentiate it from pure VR headsets.
