RE: Autonomous & Driverless car domains

Seems like there's a lot of news lately, as recently as the last few days, of advances in driverless & autonomous cars. There are multiple auto makers getting ready to launch some form of these cars, and of course, Google is working on their project car.

I have a handful of domains related to this news & technology, and I am wondering if anybody else has any? Also, any spike in traffic to your domains, or news of sales???

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
So like 1 year and 1/2 ago on here, when I first started getting back into namepros after a hiatus, I was in the chat and we were talking about future tech trends.

The subject of self-driving cars came up.

I did a search on godaddy and saw that driverless.us and driverless.biz were available, and i let everyone in the chat know. Either people laughed at those extensions and didn't even acknowledge the comment/tip.

I was just trying to be helpful, but also I didn't think much of those extensions either.

But after like 10 minutes - I was like, you know what, those are worth SOMETHING. And back then I think .biz were $3.99 at godaddy and .us was $2.99. So, that's not much of a gamble to actually learn a little bit about the market for these types of domains. At worst I learn something for $7.

Well, the .biz sold via BIN on bido last year. Something in the low $1XX range. But still... I was happy. And done with my experiment, because I let the .us drop. (I tried to sell it on here for $10 i think. no takers).

This morning I got an email from sedo that I "sold" driverless.us for $150. Damn. I checked the whois really quickly JUST TO MAKE SURE... I had to email them to let them know that I mistakenly left it listed and that I didn't own it anymore. I apologized.

So I went to a registrar and typed in "driverless" and it is taken in every new gtld that makes any sense with it.

It's crazy how fast this is moving and I think you're seeing evidence of that in what domains investors are looking for.

Just wanted to report my non-sale to show the value of $7 investment in 2 years and maybe help shed more light on this niche.

This is exactly the kind of info investors in this niche can benefit from. Thanks for sharing!

So what does everyone think the impact of the new US Federal Automated Vehicles Policy will be? Will it hasten the speed with which domain names in this niche increase in value?

Will the policy have an impact on verbiage? I went to the US Transport website looked at the policy and note that in its hundred or so pages the word autonomous is used 5 times, self-driving is used 4 times, driverless is used 1 time, and automated is used 173 times.

I have now added the following to my portfolio:

automatedbus
automatedtaxicab
automatedlimo
automatedlimos

dot com

You should sell it. Dont wait for better offer on GTLD's. If i was buying i would pay 2-3k for DriverlessTaxi.com than gtld. Again that is my personal perspective.

I am feeling enthusiastic about domains with the word "automated" so I just added the following to my portfolio in this niche:

automatedcourier
automatedcouriers
automatedshuttle
automatedshuttles
automatedvan
automatedvans

Thats awesome! Domains with the word "Driverless" along with "Taxi", "Taxis", "Cab" or "Cabs" in them seem to be gaining some traction. I'm also invested in one such name which I have mentioned in earlier posts on this string.

What sort of offers has everyone been receiving on domain names in this niche? Has anyone put there domains in this niche to the test of an auction? And any development ideas for domains in this niche?

I own driverless.insure and I got an offer of $200 on godaddy, which I (offcourse) decline with a modest counter offer of $1999

The second one is a stretch, in this niche at least.
Robotransit.png

Though I did grab the second with the vehicular transport industry in mind.

This one could be used in this niche I guess:

Domains in this niche with the word "insurance" or derivatives thereof seem to be doing particularly good. Good foresight by those who invested in such names!

Doesn't necessarily fit in this niche, but a good brandable for any taxi service in general. May find favour with an emergent company seeking to enter into the market being born for driverless cab services.

Now I know why you have been going for these robo car related domains, well done mate ;)

Makes quite a few references in the article to "self-driving taxis"

Hopefully a good sign as well because I own:

Self-driving Taxi (.com)
Self-driving Taxis (.com)

Actually i was going for robocar related domains before i even saw articles. It just sounds like a consumer term.
Lets see :)
