.tv Parked.tv ~ First Ever WordPress Theme Created for .TV - Official Thread

Dear Friends,

For a long time I have been looking for a better solution for my .tv domain names then the boring parked pages with zero video content we get from most parking companies.

Finally I decided enough! It is not a secret that .tv does not get the same type of type in traffic that .com does and I wanted something that would help get the domains indexed in the search engines and have a centric video theme. And because I have so many names, I wanted something that would be easy to set-up and manage yet look clean and professional. This way when a potential end user comes to see the site they will realize there is a serious seller behind the name.

The theme comes in 7 colors and was designed to help you sell your .tv domain names or any other extension that can benefit from video.

What you see has been in the works for the last few months and is version 1.1.

I have a couple of NP'ers who are beta testing the theme for me now and giving my feedback as the idea is to make it as beneficial as possible and as affordable as possible for every domainer.

I created 7 sites for you to check out, one of each color:

I'm trying to keep the price affordable and the price includes hosting so there is no need to worry about that. Right now the price I will launch with will be $10 for 10 names + $1 set-up fee per name. I am curious to your thoughts on that as well.

I will have larger packages for those with more than 10 names, but I need to keep things manageable. PayPal will be the payment method and you can pay me by month or for the full year. If you want to change a name the cost is $1.

The theme will come with an instruction doc, but I have kept things very simple and you can create one of these sites in less than 5 minutes. I also plan on creating videos that will make it even easier to use.

If you are interested then please PM me as I will launch with just 10 clients in October and then see how to scale from there.

Right now it's $1 per name per month and one time $1 setup fee per name.

When I launch out of beta in November I will have more set prices and probably will only sell packages starting at 5 or 10 names. But for now I am happy to start with your two with you

One thing which would be interesting to observe and share is how quickly Parked.tv video sites rank at Yahoo & Bing for the primary keywords. I believe for less-competitive phrases and with a little SEO these sites can rank OK at Yahoo & Bing as Yahoo & Bing seem to place more weight on exact match domains regardless of extension. Google will likely take a bit more work as Google seems to emphasize inbound links & site age. A self-launched minivideo site I launched just in the last week using a basic version of Youtube's API Fisicoculturismo.tv (bodybuilding in Spanish) already ranks on page one of Yahoo & Bing.

I would like to know what other Ad Codes there are out there and what others are using, or planning to utilize for their ads.

One minor detail is that to specify BUY NOW one must send the buyer to Paypal. Given Paypal does not protect sellers, I would avoid selling to an unknown party. So you have to specify Make Offer even if you have a fixed price set. Given how SEDO has deprioritized the listing of .TV domains in search results, for now I am sending offers to Godaddy. Perhaps I should just send them to Escrow but I figure buyers are more familiar with Godaddy than Escrow.

Another issue I have noticed is that when choosing many of the videos that they don't play. If you keep trying different videos eventually you find one which works but it seems strange that so many don't play. Check Extraterrestrial.tv to see what I mean.

found the problem and fixed it on Extraterrestrial.tv

All new installs of the theme will have the fix.

We are busy working on an updated theme with 3 more colors and a couple of other fixes. Once it is done we will upgrade every site on our platform to have the latest and greatest theme.

The 3 new colors are:
Pink
Brown
Navy Blue

DO you all like these colors? Any obvious color missing?

Also, any other features you would like? Let me know during this beta stage please.

Since we are talking about color preferences, I wish the title of the website were a dark color rather than white. For example, if I select blue, I would like to see dark blue as the color for the title at the top i.e. Extraterrestrial.tv

I know the site is video-centric...I just a wish a little, that there was more room on the first page for more text (maybe blogging, etc.) or other information capabilities, for instance leading to other links/partners ))) I guess I am on the boundaries with my own excitement, and driving this towards more of a website ))

Instructions on Changing Your Password (got a few requests for this)

1. Assuming you are already logged in to your wordpress admin account
2. Scroll down and click "Users" on the left hand side
3. This will show you the list of profiles
4. Click the profile with the administrator role
5. This will open a window with all the profile information
6. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and in the "New Password" area and enter the desired password.
7. Click "Update Profile". That would then change your password

About the color. How about a more sage-y Martha Stewartesque green and a lighter, buttery yellow? A slightly softer color palette.

I don't have amazon or google ads on all of them yet, but they're getting there.

I will also be adding posts and articles along the way to help with seo.

As for putting custom content on the front page, you can do this by going into the "reading" settings and changing the front page settings to "static page" and the home page to some other page you've added. You could lead in with text, and post a video or two on those pages, with links to the full video and sales page(s).

I just tested it at skis.tv by adding a page called "Buy Skis.TV", then changing the reading settings to make the about page the static front page and the posts page "Buy Skis.TV." Now the video and sales info is showing up on "Buy Skis.TV" page, and the "about" page (or whatever page you choose) can become a custom written content page.

Work in progress, but it's a thought.

As I said before, this theme has the potential to be a game changer for the extension. If you want to just pull in video and have the site function as a marketing tool, you can. But if you want to add additional text or posts, that is possible as well. And despite the fact a week ago I had no prior experience working with Wordpress, I now have nine sites up and running. Hopefully in the next several days that figure will go much higher. And keep in mind this is still a beta version which will be refined a bit over time.

Note one thing which caught me offguard on one of my geo portals - I had specified three phrases and mistakenly misspelled one word on one of them. I suppose for that misspelled word Youtube would have returned no search results. So when I went to the site, the only video which appeared was the top video even though there were two other valid phrases. When I fixed the misspelling, the site worked fine. So if you see a similar thing happen, check your spelling.
