Anyone else registering 3D domains?

It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

I personally think..in most cases, the "3D" fits better at the front of the keyword, 3DTravel, rather than Travel3D, if you check, you willl see some people say they prefer the 3D after the keyword, only because the 3DKeyword.com was registered years before.

I also disagree with, I can remember who said it, it may have been froy, apologies if it wasnt mate, but thye said Sports3D is better than Sport3D, I think the singular looks/sounds much nicer, happy for anyone to agree/disagree. The "s" followed by the "th" doesnt roll of the tongue IMO


evirtual1, I think its one of my firt with 3D at the end, bought it mainly because of the strong keyword. a lot of articles I have read are saying Sport will be the biggest pusher of 3D in the world, and i agree, along with movies, especially with the World Cup in South Africa apparently being broadcast in 3D, it helps being the world's most popular sport, perfect timing

Good to have you back.

I absolutely positively prefer 3D as the prefix.

I think I only have 2 - 4 Sports related 3D's as the suffix only because the prefix 3D's were regged already, and I could not pass them up...Skate3D, Race3D, Fight3D, Fighting3D...If I remember correctly, lol

and as for Sport or Sports...
I say Sports is much better!
Sports is all encompassing, baseball, boxing, soccer, racing, etc.

Sport is only one of the above.

I think that particular name is targetting the virtual home market in the real estate biz, and not the 3D television or movie craze that has hit us.

Also, I agree with above posts preferring 3D as a prefix - except, of course, - in other languages such as French where 3D would come after the term.

3d as the prefix works nicely with MULTIPLE words...
... it's the singular words that the 3d at the end SOMETIMES works better

... Piranha 3d

You might be right, the old virtual ideas of yesterday are probably going to change to the new 3d concepts in the near future. Being able to see homes and real estate for sale in 3d sounds like the next logical step forward.

I think that 3d works better at the beginning of the keyword in most cases, off course for the very top keywords it might be okay to get it at the end if that’s all that is available. It also depends which rigeons you are targeting. IMO

I came to the 3D trend a little too late, unlike app and cloud___ dotcom names which I jumped on and which have returned a very nice ROI (selling mainly to endusers), while developing and ranking the big ones, and getting nice traffic.

I have 3 really top 3d names which have received nice offers, but plan to develop, but I agree 3D, despite the craze, is purely speculative - at this point (mainly because there are so few endusers - at least now -- maybe this will change next year )

I would not be surprised if the 3d fad is short lived. 3d films "trick" the brain into seeing 3d. Its ok to watch one movie but longer viewing could be very dangerous. Read up on the studies. After a bunch of 8 hour gamers go blind or people start having medical side effects they will go back to their HD tvs.

i do believe that virtual and 3d are considered the same .......although not, as for a.r i have never associated it as being the same ....just my humble opinion

Well i can't say i have too much staistical data...some of it is small sample sizes and speculation, but here goes...

.. take a company like Topps, for example
(the baseball card company)

They came out with 3d Trading Cards
.. but it's all Augmented Reality... why?


Augmented Reality, by definition "is registered in 3D"
...it uses 3d models, 3d software, 3d pointing devices,


Augmented Reality though is much harder to push into the homes from a marketing perspective... i believe that it will be introduced as 3d for the consumer to be able to be comfortable in understanding it .. they might even refer to it as "..some new kind of 3d" before they would remember Augmented Reality walking out of the store.

I looked into AR names and true indeed... many great names were gone... although i was able to grab two AR dandies that i thought were dead on PERFECT...

... but domains are basically built off of marketing... say what you will about searches, but people search what's been marketed... so while AR and Augmented Reality might be fine and cool and understandable to you and me and those who follow and live tech.. the everyday consumer is just a different beast and THAT'S who gets marketed... much easier, especially on the heels of this whole 3d craze to kick that door in as "3d"


As for 'Virtual" .. take a site like SecondLife.com for example...
... HUGE and very successful community ... all virtual, virtual chatrooms, avatars... etc...
