information New Names: What I've Acquired Recently (CM88.com, DN88.com and More)

Spaceship Spaceship
This year, I've spent more on domain names than I ever have before. By following what I read on the blogs, forums, and looking at the great data available on websites such as NameBio and Chaomi, I've decided to buy up quite a few domain names in a number of categories that I thought could be of interest to you all.

Whilst I don't have the budget of many investors, I've still concentrated on the Chinese market with purchases of numerical domains and short domains, concentrating mainly on patterns. I've also acquired my first keyword .CC domain name recently, thanks to @Domain Shane's blog.

CM88.com and DN88.com

There are only 676 possible LLNN (letterletternumbernumber) .com domain names that end in "88," and I've recently acquired two of them. They were both acquired from owners who were not domain investors, and they seemed happy to sell for a relatively small amount.

I've already had a couple of offers for these names, but I think I'm going to keep them for a while. According to NameBio, this type of domain should sell for at least four figures. NamePros member @Kassey Lee told me that "CM" can translate to "Domain Speculation" or "Media," which is a perfect fit for the "88" ending.

BY22.com

Yes, another LLNN .com domain name. I own quite a few now, but I particularly like this one. The "22" pattern makes it a fairly safe bet considering the price I paid and the English word "BY." I think that aside from a Chinese investment, this could make an excellent brand.

The "22" pattern isn't as desirable as the "88" (naturally), but I think it does have some value. NameBio shows these domains currently selling anywhere between $120 and $275 at the moment.

GraphicDesigner.cc
Usually my purchases are all .COM, but I couldn't resist this one. I paid $35 (including renewal fees) on GoDaddy.com after seeing it listed on DomainShane.com's daily list, and I couldn't believe that I was the only bidder on this name.

Although this is a .CC domain name, I think that there will definitely be a graphic designer who will want to acquire it. From my research, many graphic design companies are using inferior (long and/or hyphenated) .COM domains. I feel sure that after contacting a select number of companies, one will see the value of this name, despite the .CC ccTLD.

6N .COM Domains
I've built up a portfolio of over 20 premium 6N .COM domain names over the last month or two, and I've recently added to that portfolio by acquiring domains such as 991889.com, 181119.com and 191921.com. If you look at the data available, you will see a downward trend in 6N .COMs, but I think patterned domains will hold or increase their value.

After buying some poorer 6N .COMs for higher than the market price, I have changed my strategy a little with regards to 6N's. From now on, I will only be interested in acquiring 6N's if at least 50% of the numbers are the same.

5L .COM Domains
I must admit that I don't understand the attraction of acquiring vast portfolios of random five-letter .COM combinations, but it seems that many investors are doing just that with only 11% of all possible five-letter Chinese-premium combinations left available to register.

I have concentrated on domains with some sort of pattern to them. Although I opted to sell 7 of my most valuable five-letter .COMs (AAAAB and AABBB patterns), I have acquired a couple more inferior names. These include RMRMR.com, HKRRR.com, PPJXX.com, and many similar patterns.

James-a well known "Chinese domain" expert (if there is such a thing) recently told me that the .co extension is starting to catch on in China. Hi sexact words "I'd hold on to Luxing.co it could become valuable" . I know others disagree about the .co extension but I found this interesting. I won't post the brokers name here but if you want it just pm me. Thanks for this post.

James, thank you for your candor and openness in sharing your recent purchases. Although my main focus is brandable domains I have made some purchases similar to you in recent months; focusing on patterns which, as you say, should be more likely to retain value in a potential downturn or pullback.

I too have a few LLNN/LLNN names recently. Though only a few are considered "chip". The ones that are not, I paid 5 dollars or less for them. Some of the others I paid 69.

Also I can't help but pick up nice looking .co domains (fono.co) closeouts or dropped

Thanks :). I don't usually reveal prices I pay - although I will say the LLNNs were $xxx each and the most I've paid for a 6N is in the $400 range I believe

I own an LL88 as well, had a similar experience. If you can negotiate, you can definitely find one for a good price. I'm still a fan of LLNN domains with a strong brand potential, so if they happen to be 'chips' as well, then thats just a bonus.

11% of all possible five-letter Chinese Premium combinations left available to register.

Crazy that we may see these have value this year.

Great post James, thanks for sharing.

@joanlee the offers from China that I've had on both "88" domain names so far is proof enough for me that there are at least a couple of people willing to pay for the names ;)

Aside from llnn and nnll, I dont see any value in most 4C names. Not sure what you would do with a name that has NLNL, unless it has an actual meaning.

Very nice acquisitions and a well written and well reasoned post regarding your new names!

Good read, thanks. Always interesting to see how others think regarding domains. I remain, steeply entrenched in brandables, with some great recent acquisitions, and a very nice recent BB sale on a one week flip. Running about 70% on acceptance at both markets in March! I know it wont last, but i like it while it does.
