In this new blog series, I'm going to wear my Chinese hat to check whether user-submitted domain names can be turned into something meaningful and easy to remember for Chinese consumers. This is actually more challenging than it may sound, because numbers and letters do not have one-to-one relationships with Chinese words, and there are always exceptions. So, I will do my best to share my strategies, experiences, and methods with you from the perspective of a multilingual domain investor.
Let's begin with the submissions from this week.

When I first saw 8F8G posted in my Chinese Perspective thread, I immediately thought it might be good. After I studied it more, I found that it has the potential to be very good. As a side note, the domain name 8F8G.com was recently registered in November 2015 by someone in Nigeria.
Here are the reasons based on my understanding of the Chinese culture.

Let's begin with the submissions from this week.
8F8G
How much would you value a domain name with the pattern NLNL (

) in your favorite domain extension? NameBio reports seven NLNL .com sales this year, and the most expensive one is 3G4G.com at $1,371.00, which is a special case because 3G and 4G actually have meaning, e.g. telecommunications.
- Chinese love the number 8, so any name containing 8 is usually good.
- A repeating pattern of 8 is even better.
- Chinese love 4-pin (four Pinyin words). Many Chinese idioms are 4-pin.
F
andG
have positive meanings.- The resulting Chinese phrase can become a great brand tied to the finance industry. The phrase is also easy to remember for consumers.
F

: 付 发 坊富

: 给 个 估 供 光 公 冠 功 哥 国 岗 工 干 广 感 果 歌 港 狗 程 级 耕 谷 购贵
(noble) 赣 过 高 逛 顾 改 关
F

to find 富
(rich) + 贵
(noble) as a commonly used phrase with very good meaning. So, 8F8G now becomes 8富8贵
in Chinese. The more I say it in Chinese, the more I could see it becoming a favorable brand name. It could be used for any site relating to money, such as selling financial products.PCQB
I see this one as having two parts:
PC
and QB
.PC
: Commonly refers to personal computer, and a Baidu search returns 100,000,000 results.QB
: 趣宝 (Fun and treasure)
PC趣宝
to teach computer technology in a fun way and to help students discover the treasure in using a PC.SJVCN
While
SJV
has many positive meanings, having CN
at the end may be challenging if you want to create a meaning for the name. Generally speaking, 5L+ (5 letters or more) are difficult to work on because they are so long. However, many Chinese investors buy in volume, so they likely don't spend the time to confirm that each 5L has meaning. The investigation into a name's meaning ("the naming game") is more for end-user sales. Here are some examples of what
SJV
suggests:- 数据网: Data network
- 手机网: Mobile (phone) network
- 设计网: Design network
- 世界网: World network
- 商机网: Business opportunity network
CN
at the beginning of the name, because it's more common to start with a geographical name followed by something else, e.g., Beijing Lawyers.37387

3
and an 8

and 387
. If you say it in Chinese, it's very smooth (easy to say) and easy to remember. Here's the meaning that could be associated with
37387
:- 商机商伴钱: Business opportunity, business accompanied with money
50500606
This number may be too long and mostly of interest to investors rather than end users.
Here's how
50500606
could be represented, but I question whether it is practical:- 我赢我赢赢来赢咯: I win, I win win, come to win.
