Chinese domain investor and owner of 4.cn and DN.com John Xu has just announced that he's sold Daikuan.com "for an eight figure RMB fee." This equates to a sale price of at least $1,563,000 (according to XE.com). A final price hasn't been revealed publicly.
My contact has confirmed to me that daikuan.com was sold to an end user. Daikuan (贷款) means "loan" in Chinese, and there is no shortage of end users who could take advantage of this domain name.
We've already seen high value domain names being used for financial websites in China. We.com, a reported $8-10 million sale from earlier this year, is currently used by Wealth Evolution who provide loans.
Heika.com was acquired this year from Sedo for $300,000 and currently displays a financial website. Google Translate indicates that Heika (黑卡) means "Black Card."
According to WHOIS, John Xu bought Daikuan.com just over a year ago from an individual in Hong Kong who had owned the domain name for many years.
Daikuan.cn sold in April of this year on Sedo for $81,579. The WHOIS information for both Daikuan.com and Daikuan.cn shows a generic "@midai.com" email address, which is used for some of John's domains as well as those of 4.cn and DN.com's clients.
