sales As Xian.com Sells For A Six Figure Fee, We Ask: Are Pinyin Words the Next Trend?

Spaceship Spaceship
Today, the news from China is that the domain name Xian.com has sold for "a mid seven figure CNY fee," which equates to a six figure dollar value of anywhere between $450,000 and $910,000. The news, first reported on eName.cn, suggests that single Pinyin words may be the new trend among the richer Chinese investors.

According to NamePros.com member @Kassey Lee, Xian can have several meanings, such as (Fresh), (Immortal), (County), and (Filling). Single Pinyin domain names are highly sought after in China, due to the fact that they are very short and easy to remember.

Single pinyin domains also prove to be excellent brand names in China with LE.com (乐) (rumored to have sold for $10 million), Gou.com (购), and Che.com (车) being actively used by Chinese companies.

Another single Pinyin domain, Lian.com, is being auctioned at DropCatch.com and currently has a bid of $201,150 with around 31 hours to go. Lian can mean (Link), (Contact), (Honest), or (Love).

Whilst single Pinyin (and to an extent, double Pinyin) domains are out of reach for the majority of investors, there has been a prediction that triple Pinyin domains will become the new trend among Chinese investors.

In an article published on NamePros, @Cynthia from DN.com wrote a guide to triple Pinyin domains and why they could be the new favorite in China. In the guide, Cynthia says, "In order to meet the market needs, triple Pinyin domains have become the new favorite in the Chinese Internet Industry."

Another recent piece of news tells us that the double Pinyin domain ZhengTou.com (郑投) was used by a P2P lending platform to create a shorter, more memorable brand from their official name: 河南郑投网络信息技术有限责任公司 (Henan Zheng Investment Network Information Technology Co., Ltd.) - a trend which seems to be catching on among tech-savvy companies in China.

Thanks to @Kassey Lee for the contributions to this article.

Hi, @Kassey Lee
do you think the words like xingyiquan means Chinese Martial Art could find an investor/end user in China in .club extension.

Thanks in advance.
