domains 63 Character .TOP Domain Featured on Sedo

Spaceship Spaceship
The domain name TOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOP.TOP has been discovered as a featured domain on Sedo's homepage today. The 63 character .TOP domain name was registered on June 3rd this year, by an Austrian individual.

The .TOP domain name currently has around 135,000 domain registrations and is seemingly very popular in China. There have been reports of high value .TOP domain sales (including some threads here on NamePros), but without proof, those sales cannot be verified.

So far, the Sedo listing has been viewed 100 times, and whilst anyone can feature a domain name on Sedo's homepage for a fee (currently a maximum of 69EUR), I think it's a good time to ask whether Sedo should start vetting the domain names that are submitted to Sedo's Featured Domains list.

At the moment, it looks like anyone can purchase a featured listing for any domain name without any approval from Sedo. I have never purchased a featured listing, so I'm just going by what I can gather from Sedo's website. However, if Sedo took the time to approve or disapprove of each domain submitted to the section, I think they could improve the overall quality of that section, which perhaps may lead to a more active Featured Domains section.

As I look at Sedo.com's Featured Domain section now, there are some great domains in there - but they are being obscured by terrible domains such as TOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOP.TOP - taking these names out will give more exposure to higher quality names featured on Sedo.

Do you agree?

(Tip goes to @Enfant's thread here)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I think people with agree with you to a certain extent, but at the end of the day - if somebody wants to chuck 63eur to get their domain on the homepage, doesn't really matter how insane it is.

Sometimes you have to just switch off work-mode and have a little chuckle about it.

Toby.

LOL :D I guess the featured listing brings a lot of money to Sedo, and they already have a "top domains" section where DN are carefully selected. Wouldn't be a good move to say no to all domainers willing to pay 69 USD to feature their domains, even if they have absolutely no value.. not to mention it's always entertaining to notice a domain like that..

But of course it's decreasing the credibility of other domains featured in this category, so maybe they lose some clients who don't want to have their names to show up next a 63 characters .top domain. From that point, yep, maybe they should have a few criteria to accept/reject featured names.

I agree that Sedo does itself a disservice by allowing such names. You wonder if somehow you're on ebay by mistake. Sedo's star seems to be falling and their being a big marketplace with some name recognition is just not enough anymore. What is SEDO anyway? I think they are moving from 'see dough' to 'see dose' domains.

I am guessing that 63 characters is the maximum domain length in which case this guy may actually be on to something because nobody can top him.

Imagine you register top.top and wake up next morning to find somebody has registered toptop.top. How gutted would you feel? This shrewd investor has made sure that won't happen to him by using the maximum characters available to ensure that nobody out tops him......... unless of course they pay the premium required to secure the reserved domain infinity.top.

I totally agree with you @James lles I do not see any single reason why would one like to buy some weird domains that do not make any meaning1! this Topdomain! Either the buyer "Just" bought it for curiosity purpose or there might be a very deep strategy that eludes the comprehension. I am new to the practical field of Domain, but what do you think, can therebe any far-sighted strategy in this instance.

I say that it was money well spent.

Obviously this name got attention, which is good for the seller -- seeing that he has 3,461 other domain names for sale. Having people notice a domain such as this and leading eyes into his whole portfolio increases the chances that one of the domain names may sell.

Though, seeing that he has 0 bars, it doesn't look like an effective marketing campaign as of yet.

I think .top registry spent only 69eur to make domainers talk about TOP

I bought what I think is a pretty good .top yesterday. Wouldn't have even considered that extension without the domain in this thread getting my attention and I am sure that I am not alone.

If you like .TOP because it is these things, why would you buy this 63 character .TOP domain that is not short, not concise, not simple to pronounce, and not visually appealing?

I'm indifferent to .TOP, but the domain you purchased confuses me:
TOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOP.TOP

The quoted describings are meant of course to the extension .top itself.

The individual choosen name left from the extension is for sure completeley another thing and allthough in this case this choosen name is truly not short and not simple to pronounce (at least exact), I am sure that it is visually very appealing and it makes a big sense because it is so weird that it turns it, in combination with the Extension, into a really superspecial pefect 63 character domain.
And, also the fact that the word TOP, if repeated 21 times, fits exactly in the maximum character length (63) - I mean, the name itself is not ending with TO or T, it is ending perfectly with TOP - same as the Extension.

It ends with TOP - a full and meaningfull word, which is more esthetic than COM, which is a shortcut and not every website is used for COMmercial (sure, it doesn't matter at the end because COM is since long meanwhile used for all - but like I said, I mean it in a esthetical way) - so TOP is 'better' than COM in this view.

All this were some reasons why I created this mind blowing domain - I am sure that this Domain will became much more famous and will wake up the interest of someone who will recognize it's immense worth.

BTW - this is far the longest .top Domain which I own. All others are much shorter.

I have to correct myself - some of my other domains have the same length (but not the same perfection).
