Unstoppable Domains — Expired Auctions

blog Auction Platforms Shouldn’t Benefit from Default Bidders

NamecheapNamecheap
If the winning bidder for a domain name auction does not pay and the auction platform offers the domain name to the next highest bidder(s), the default bidder’s bids should be removed entirely. The platform should treat the auction as if the default bidder never existed. Otherwise, the platform would benefit from a default bidder...

Rick is right. The best is to rerun auctions when the main bidder defaults and start it from scratch. I think all auctions should not show what the username is of the person, show a 6 digit number and next to it the age of the bidders account and approximately how much they won if anything. We have a right to know what is going on. I suspect a serious amount of auction activity on all platforms are fraud.

The problem with just giving it to the second bidder, with all the bids removed, is what Richard pointed out.

It's basically the @GoDaddy auction problem that has been going on for over a decade and has lead to all the rollbacks.

The current arrangement is wrong.
But removing every fake bid and just handing the domain name to the second highest bidder after ALL bids from the defaulter has been removed is also wrong.

Best thing to do after the winning bidder defaults is to RUN A NEW AUCTION.

BAN the fake bidder and run a new auction.

Bidders with new accounts on want to bid on an auction the same day or recently after they opened an account may be mandated to verify their identity.

Agreed, platforms should escrow bidder deposits upfront to ensure accountability and genuine auction integrity.

All I’m thinking is 1) how do you appease a butthurt person; 2) after all this ”marketing”, how high will the winning bid be in the second auction.
