I participated in a private auction for a domain name the other day.
I noticed that the other backorder bidders are the same as on every auction. AKA FAKE!

Only me and 1 other were bidding and he ended up outbidding me.
24 hours later I got an email from namejet saying the auction is back active.

How come? shouldn't the winning bidder have at least 48 hours to pay, and if he doesn't they will chase him for at least 1 week, and 2 weeks for verified bidders?

I heard that if the bidders doesn't pay then they offer the domain to the next highest bidder to my highest bid?

Please explain this.

These are the bidders that appear in almost every single auction. I think they are robots pushing the bids

Theer was some kind error in namjet site 29, they are running the auctions again, because bidders couldn`t bid :9 but we all know why they actually run them again, to get more money :)

Now that's disappointing....here I was getting all excited and getting ready to shout conspiracy!!

But Alas, just a false alarm... :)

Another question: Do I have to outbid the highest bidder now, or will I get it at my last bid if the current highest bidder doesn't pay, which I think is the case as he most likely is a "robot" working for the seller. (Network Solutions)

Dear Namejet, re-running the auction would mean to start it again from $69, not from the last auction's maximum bid. If the last auction is not valid, then the highest bidder should NOT be obligated to pay.

there are no robots!! There used to be one at snapnames called halvarez, but when it was discovered it costed them a lot money, so I don´t think anyone would risk that.

You will not get domain, if you don`t outbid.

It's not a robot. Namejet allows proxy bidding which means bidders can set a high bid that the system automatically applies up to the proxy bid (in increments) whenever the current bid is raised

Part of the e-mail that I received from NameJet:

"Please be advised that due to a network issue that occurred on Monday, August 29th, our platform was unavailable to bidders from approximately 12:00 PM PST to 1:00 PM PST - which was during auction closing time. In fairness to everyone that had a backorder on the affected domains but could not participate, auctions that were scheduled to close during that time were put on hold, have been restarted. Pending Delete auctions will now close on Tuesday, August 30th, and Pre Release auctions will close on Wednesday, August 31. "

I'm not a consistent regular bidder on the NameJet platform so I can't speak to how often this happens. I personally haven't seen it.

It's very typical to have a bunch of the same people participating in the auction but only a few people actively bidding. Why would they do this? Possibly because they forgot about the auction, they bid on other names instead, they don't like the name any longer at the price, you guys bid the name up past what they thought it was worth paying, they just wanted to see how much the name would go for, etc...

As for the bidder alias's that you mention, I can't speak that they're all legit but most likely are. A few of them are big players and purchase lots of names.

There's a lot of competition for good domain names so it's very common to see the same people on the auctions.

Hope this helps!

Users often backorder just to know final price.

To know the final price, true, and to participate in the eventual private auction, as private auctions wins often are better buys than the public ones
