Been getting emails from someone in UK offering to buy my domain name for a client. Went as far as saying client will not stop bugging him until he gets and answer. I keep thinking it was spam or scam. Never answered him for weeks. Now he calls and left a message on the phone. I answered one of his emails and said I would reluctantly sell but his offer was to low. He replied that he would get with his client and get back.

This came out of the blue I never advetised selling. He wants to use escrow.com to finalize.

Is this scam stuff common or may be legite?
It is a consulting company out of UK seems OK from what I saw.

Hey Reggie, from the $2000 price raise I would say to counter at $15k. I don't think they will be running away, especially after him telling you his client wouldn't stop bugging him. But that's just my opinion. There are lots of people on here with way more experience than me that can offer you advice.

But remember, you may be sitting on a much better domain than you think and I would suggest you pm Archangel or someone on here that has been a long time member. You may end up having a domain that could go for $50k or more. Have you found anything out about the potential buyer? That may also help you know what to counter at.

Its been greatly suggested he pms a few people, looks like he declined to do that.

Sounds like he's working on the deal for 7k and we are wasting our breath from now on with the "pm somebody".

I typed it in a joking manor (ask 20k) but when someone tells you client will not stop bugging him Thats about as load up the truck as it gets, even if the name sucks.

The fail here is that the domain owner didnt test what the buyer max range is. But thats just my opinion. Goodluck

Yep your right. I have posted basically the same posts over and over lol. But I would like to see him squeeze every penny out of it.

I like to see people succeed. I guess we'll all find out what happens. I can definitely say it'd be safe to shoot for $15k by the sound of it. Worst that could happen would be that the broker would offer 10k or more.

I know he can go more than $7k because human nature is to not offer your whole budget until the owner of the domain shoots a counter offer at least once.

Negotiating for something without knowing the value of the item is just plain silly. Let one of the seasoned members on here help you - PM one of them the name. You found this forum for a reason. Obviously domain values are subjective to some degree, but someone that's been in the business for awhile can give you a good idea of the market value. Take the free advice and quit playing games, what do you have to lose???

Seems that way. We tried our best to aid him in making an informed decision.

Very true!! Last year a guy offered me mid $xxx for a co.za domain that I had for 3 years (caught at the drops). Immediately I responded with $7000 (for a .co.za mind you). His next offer was $6000. The low-baller is now shouting amounts in excess of 10x the initial offer!! ;)

I responded with $6400... and it was a done deal! :tu:

You're right! You have to test the waters. What's the point of jumping for an amount given to you?

I'm really starting to wonder what this domain name could be! Sounds like there could be a chance that the buyer is getting a hell of bargain. Maybe not. We'll see.:gl:

Maybe he could have gotten more, but if he and the buyer both happy with the transaction, then congratulations them both!

(But of course I'm as curious about the details as everyone else :)!)

Oh, I never noticed your post. I didn't know you were already doing escrow. Congrats for you and I hope you are happy with the sale. Only you can really decide what it's worth, so if $7k is good for you then great.

Yes but what if it turns out to be something worth mid $xx,xxx or even more! I strongly feel the OP is making a mistake and by the sounds of it the buyer is getting one hell of a bargain.. :\

That's what I thought as well but if he's happy with it then good for him. I think he could've gotten at least $10-15K from the interest they showed in the domain and the $2000 raise without a counter.

"Post" has been suggested at least once in this thread. Also, he doesn't know any of us - would someone in that situation maybe feel unsure who to trust?

I pesonally would have trusted so many domainers here - there are so many nice guys here who are willing to offer their experience for free which makes this site what it is.

I am not a nice guy myself, BTW. I am a good guy :)

Exactly. What's the worse thing that could happen if countered with $xx,xxx? The guy won't back down in an telephone/email conversation. If he's budget limit was under that counter, he will negotiate around that area.

Not knowing the name is kinda making me go insane! :D

But hey, if it means a nice vacation after many years of hard work, and you just wanna relax this summer and have a really good time... I guess, the vacation would be priceless. :)

Congrats

Though i have not experienced with it but from what I've read, a $2000 increase to me means that they are willing to pay at least $10k if not more. You can ask others for confirmation.

Hmmm.. bubulove (new account) tries to convince OP that he musn't think too much about it and the offer is coming from a common guy.

Now, lovelyika (new account) tries to convince OP $10k is the where it's at. :gl:

That's lovely. Is the buyer in the house/find out about this thread? lol

lovelyika was also banned- ip address probably the same for another account. ;)

Funny, when I read the original post of lovelyika it was like they copied and pasted my post on the subject.

I think the deal was already made for $7k which I still believe was low for the circumstances. The broker threw an extra $2k without a counter so I suspect they would've paid much more.

LOL bubulove's post was very suspicious. Any news on what happened with this domain/sale?

I have no more fingernails to bite...

lovelyika has no dupes that I've seen. But hi posts were meaningless, regardless. I didn't ban him but still, he's gone.

Received closing statement.

Just received the closing statement email from escrow.com. Thank you for all the help. It was interesting walking through this for the first time. It was like money dropping from the sky and I am very content. That is all that matters. Going on vacation next week. Had it all planned before this guy came out of the blue to buy. So the budget is unexpectedly expanded. Life is funny sometimes.
