Upon further investigating and deductive reasoning, I believe "zimmerdale" is a collection of the two towns of Heston and Newton. Looking at a map, "zimmerdale" is directly between these two towns consisting of nothing but farmland. However, the US Zip Code site reports the population of "zimmerdale" at 21,361.
Total population of Heston is 3,631
Total population Newton is 17,788
Add these two together and it is almost the total population of "zimmerdale". And because on the map there are only a couple of actual houses in "zimmerdale", I conclude that this is the label for the community consisting of these two towns.
Also, there is no zimmerdale in this list of Kansas towns and cities.

Edit:
I have finally found the answer. Zimmerdale is not a town or a city. It is a "populated place" that is not designated by the government and does not have a federally recognized name. ( I have never even heard this to describe a location in the USA before.. I learn something new everyday....) The population of zimmerdale is, as I expected, a collection of it's two neighboring towns.
The governments official classification:
Zimmerdale is a community or populated place (Class Code U6: A populated place that is not a census designated or incorporated place having an official federally recognized name.) located in Harvey County at latitude 38.103 and longitude -97.39. The elevation is 1,467 feet.
