I have one of those situations today, where I felt a definite need to stand up for something I believed was right, fully knowing what reprecussions it would cause...

This is not the exact situation; but I can equate it to speaking up perhaps at your high paying job about things you see that are not right; things that other see but will not speak up - and essentially, by speaking up...you are fired.

Would you do it? Would you back up the person speaking up at the risk of your own job? Do you have morals that you won't comprimise?

I really need feedback - at this point I am not sure what is my next best logical step...

Hey, hope things worked out for you.. personally, I'd speak up, never been one to hold back on account of a job. I'm surprised no one else threw in and I missed the thread til now. Good luck to you!

Never compromise what you believe is the right thing to do...

Not been in a positin where it would cost me my job but I do speak up when necessary. I would like to think I would do so if it was the right thing to do.

Before doing so however ensure you have all the facts right. If it is whistle blowing or something like that then try to improve the siutation internally first.

I am a big believer of freedom of speech/thinking and expression.

If you have others depending on you and your income, think twice, because in this case you have responsibilities, if its not a "big" thing, but only a question of principles let it go, bite it in you, your family? comes first.

If you are alone, then hold on to your morals and speak up.

But remember the truth has always more sides to it, so try to be objective and double tjeck/control your sources, you never know what their intentions are with providing you with the informations.

Best regards,

Dont' do anything illegal.
But other then that; keep your mouth shut and keep your job.

Whistleblowing - a. Bringing an activity to a sharp conclusion as if by the blast of a whistle (OED) b. Raising concerns about misconduct within an organisation or within an independent structure associated with it (Nolan Committee) c. Giving information (usually to the authorities) about illegal or underhand practices (Chambers) d. Exposing to the press a malpractice or cover-up in a business or government office (US, Brewers) e. Providing a safe alternative to silence (Public Concern at Work) f. (origins) Police constable summoning public help to apprehend a criminal; signal to stop work in the industrial age; referee stopping play after a foul in football.
