Hi all i just thought i'd give it a mention as it may help some of you that are starting out developing your domains, as some of you know i developed Plymouth.mobi a long time ago it was pretty much my first site up and running, i have been tracking it on the search engines for a little while and especially on the mobile ones such as googles beta, and yahoo's one search.

Even though my site's called plymouth.mobi and should be at the top of the tree when it comes to searches it wasn't anywhere to be found, :( i don't have google site mapping or anything thats beyond my knowledge, but i have realised that if you put lots of relevent keywords in the first page, such as mine, i added plymouth in front of most of the menu options you really do get further up the search engine ladder, now if you type in plymouth in googles mobile beta search, my site comes up second!! And i believe yahoo i'm first place!!! So it just goes to show you don't have to be an SEO expert to get up there with the big boys!!!

Hope this has been helpful to some of you, if not pls rep me like a hoe anyway!! LOL!

Nice work. I think the other key is to be first in the game. Since your site is the first "Plymouth" site, as mobile search grows your site will be an original. From what I hear an aged site can be important in the rankings as well.

Aggie,

I think this is simply due to the small amount of competition. There is just a tiny amount of mobile sites relative to regular websites. There probably aren't many sites competing for that term, so it's easy to rank high.

Any term in a pure mobile search should be much much easier than in a regular website search....just less competition for ranking.

On a related note, I wonder how the ranking is decided when you do a advanced G search on the domain .mobi. All the .mobi's show up (3. something mil) - but what do you think they are ranking for? I wonder because I have a parked page that shows on the first page? It doesn't matter, obviously, since there is no connection between what is being searched and what my page is - but I was just curious.

upon further thought (it's early here) I guess it is probably the usual stuff - backlinks, SERP click performance, etc.

On a related note - it's actually 4.3million now.

SEO 101 my friend :)

Want to take your results further?

Add Plymouth to the part after the backslash -- example plymouth.mobi/plymouth-pictures.html. The hyphen is good too - distinguishes as if it were 2 words and allows you to target good 2 word combos as suggested by Wordtracker, in example.

Make Plymouth written in Bold/Italic, Underlined and in a larger size to indicate importance -- Google falls for it every time :tu: Besides, you're not really fooling Google, are you? You're helping it realize that your site is more important than it's currently being considered :hehe:

I know how you feel Aggie, it is great to see your own site on a good spot in google!!

When I started with my first sites, i didnt know either how to deal with SEO. Over the years, I have a lot more experience in SEO. For example, look at my site Weerbericht.mobi. It means "Weather Forecast" in Dutch.

I started this site a few months ago and it does very good in Google. I split the PC traffic from the mobile traffic and on the PC sites I implemented the Sedo for sale banner and tracker. You can see the results of the past 3 weeks here: http://www.sedotracker.com/layoutAP...43710a52&id=StatisticOriginSearchengine&_cm=7

With the Google ads my revenue is about $ 100/m for this site. Pure PC traffic on a .mobi! The mobile traffic is very good (150,000 pviews/m), but not as monetizable as the PC traffic at the moment.

The top keywords over the past few months:
1,664 - buienradar frankrijk
1,428 - Google images searches
1,202 - buienradar spanje
925 - weerkaart
918 - buienradar belgie
907 - buienradar duitsland
812 - weerbericht frankrijk
726 - buienradar italie
606 - weersverwachting lange termijn
590 - buienradar
531 - weerbericht lange termijn
492 - buienradar europa
453 - weersverwachting nederland
426 - weer morgen
378 - weerbericht
346 - buienradar zwitserland
340 - weerbericht morgen
323 - buienradar oostenrijk
322 - buienradar denemarken

Cheers,

Stijn
