Hi all,

I would like to know your opinion for the domainmarket in 2018.

Personally for me 2017 has been a slow year where i also didn't put my focus 200% on domaining. A lot of trends passed by and extensions are born. The biggest move i've personally witnessed are tech names like the VR and robotics related. The skyrocketing cryptocurrency trend is one of the fastest growing.

Companies see more and more the value of a good name. They made a move with social media and budget more for online marketing. Premium domains will be valued higher as the internet grows and more people have access to less available names. Nowadays people don't look at showrooms in the street but directly online as the online shopping market grows incredible fast by the year. People will keep investing in digital real estate and especially the east will bite into more names. And hopefully our outbound mails and calls will be more and more accepted;)

Give us your thoughts, ideas and predictions.

It is trending down since 2015... in terms of average prices... except some temporary bubbles...
This trend will continue in the years ahead...

True, but i expect it will go up by next year. This year there has been a lot of movement and attention to domains and the internet.

The best times for domaining are already in the past... And the more domains you have - the better you feel that...
Demand is ~ the same but supply is abnormally HUGE... and it will be extended by ICANN again in ~2020...

2017 was the year that I decided to do something with my domain portfolio. I've sold a few, and developed a few. I've also decided on a structure for the future, and I'm setting that up at the moment.

What's my forecast for 2018? Well as I'm actually doing something with my names again, it's got to be better than the last few years. I'm also going to clear out all my adult and pharma names, and I'll focus on crypto, political and health issues.

And that's the reason why for 2018, I will be tdeveloping domains, and make money from them, rather than sat pointing to a sales/parked page.

Also if the site is doing well, the domain becomes more valuable.

I can see more rubbish and pointless extensions like .top et al being released and more people jumping on bandwagons.

Same shit, different year.

Agree fully!

either best year in the last years or worst year or in between :xf.grin:

people will declare .com dead again, there will be lots of sales. some scams will be exposed, lots of domains will drop, lots of domains will be regged. end of the story.

Cheap names are still very liquid, but five figure names have been not that liquid for me.

This is only true if you are not bothered about quality, and aren't interested in the in-store offers.
I'm saddened by the fact that so many people buy their groceries online, and take no interest in freshness or quality. It's no wonder that we are now an unhealthy generation, despite the fact that more money is spent on "health care".

I'm off to the hardware supermarket to look at some products for my van conversion. I've checked online to decide what I want, so now I'm off to check the quality and buy the goods in the actual warehouse.

I'm not a star in online shopping and don't really do it myself but the economy does so we have to go with that. People tend ti become more lazy and everything around us gets automated.

More TLDs = more price dilution.

Stuff like america.com, pharmacy.com, tv.com and paper.com probably won't be affected.
But all the domains below ~$5000 mark will get cheaper and cheaper. Enterpreneurs will prefer to have http://hostel.boston than cheapbostonhostel123.com.

Quality and pertinent names will continue to grow in value...great names and/or hacks in the dot whatevers will be valuable but the rest will fall away (simply too much product and too many options).

Unless a domainer has a top grade dot com, development is the key. The days of sitting around and waiting for offers on mid and low level names are gone (at least for a while).

(disclaimer--considering I have lost my coffee cup twice this morning means my faculties are in question...)

I can't see their being much of a change from this year to the next. I do think 'Eye catching' names seem to be back near the top again, after the Google change in their metrics when they finally realized we were all fed-up having to trawl through pages of keyword domains to find an actual business selling the product/service. I can see Google (and the others) being even more rigorous in their filters in 2018. Two keyword domains may still have their wording and subject art/application about them. Can't see anything in longer wording doing well
