Your first domain, with a backstory (if you want)

Mine: Ignition Cars dot com / dot co dot uk ...a business called "Ignition", brokering second-hand cars, unsuccessfully

@Craig had nothing to do with adultlock as other sold names are not related.

My first domain registration was a .ca used for development, and my second a .net, developed also in a lackadaisical way, both of which I still have.

The first domain names that I got specifically for resale were some cheap new extensions that made phrases. They are completely forgettable, were not wise purchases, and I let most expire after first year. One example: ICanDo.Science reg Sept 1, 2016 was one of the early ones. I only invested a total of about $30 across 20 or so domain names. I did sell a few for $10 to $20, and since I had only paid order of $1, it did help bootstrap me to wiser purchases.

One of the few names from that era that I kept long term was the acronym CRISPR.science that I was able to get when it dropped in first half of 2017, years before the Nobel Prize was awarded for CRISPR. Despite all of the ethical challenges, I think CRISPR will cure some of the most vexing genetic disorders, among other things, and like owning the exact acronym. I have it renewed until 2030, so not giving up on it anytime soon.

My oldest domain name dates to May 1996, but I have not owned it nearly that long. It is a multi-word .com phrase that I like, but not sure it will ever find a buyer. I have a vague development idea, but that will probably never see the light of day.

Thanks for the interesting topic, @jhm.

    Have a good weekend, everyone.

    Bob

I think it was developed in the early 2000s, but I handreged it a few years ago, & it's still for sale on BB. No backstory, I count calories, & so it just came to mind.

2005. Guy asked me to build a site for his firm. He paid me $ 1300. Registered a 4L co.uk domain name. Built the site in code scraped from other websites. Trial and error. He paid me again I think $ 800 to create a C.M.S. that he could edit himself. It was called Microsoft Frontpage. Good old days. Now he could create a ten times better site using Wordpress in an evening. How times change.

My first domain was TradeMargin dot com wayback in 2009. But still holding it 😇. Within a week of registration I got an scam email " Your domain has been sold for some xxxx and you will need to go for a professional apprisal service" Luckily did not fall for it.
