December 2013 is a complete bust for me. The traffic is half as it used to be in November and revenue is half as much. October and November were much better. I hope the things will get better in January.

My parking revenue has been going down all year. I was hoping that December would be as good as previous years, but it also is a bust. I've dropped Bodis as a provider and now only use Voodoo, DS, ParkingCew. It's still not looking good though for 2014.

Have you guys thought about going down the affiliate marketing route? I mean develop your sites and put in affiliate links. It doesnt take that much time these days (thanks to cms) to set up a site and do a bit of SEO to get it going while you look for a buyer.

Ok you wont make millions but at least you have more control and most likely would make more than parking it.And those are just two of the benefits of going down this route. Im sure one can come up with many more.

If the domain is product-related then register with amazon affiliates and create an astore. Astore is basically amazon but with your domain name. Then do some little traffic building. I personally rate astore well above any parking service

Almost this time last year I decided to do some split testing after having made no money from parking. I parked 15 domains each with domainsponsor and voodoo and developed another 30 with affiliate marketing links, google adsense and amazon astore.

For the whole year i made a grand total of $62 from the parked websites. My total earning from the developed sites is $840. The highest percentage of the $840 came from affiliate marketing. A company paid me $120 to promote a campaign by publishing just 5 articles written by their marketing department while another paid me $35 for a banner placement. I never did anything to get these deals. They found the websites through the affiliate network and emailed me asking me if I was interested.

So i have decided to develop as many of my domains as i can.

I'm actually thinking the same, I might not be long in the parking business but it's obvious there are lots of things that are totally out of our control and even more things that don't make sense and we get no answers for.

The first time I used an affiliate-like site (devhub) I got really excited as to how easy it was to control the products I wanted to promote, that's where I thought maybe it'd be better to start my own thing, creating my own sites and setting up affiliate links on.

Might you know of any place I can get some basic steps about affiliate marketing, how to set up a site etc.? I've searched around but I got more confused than not

Thanks

@leo98 your domains are .co.uk and the companies offering your these placements were from the UK?

I did an experiment last year and registered 10 .com and around 5 .co.uk all were wrist watch related domains. I was able to get better targeting with the uk domains and made more money. But my conversions were nothing great, made around $20 for the .coms and $45 for the uk domains for the entire year. Took some time to make the mini sites its good amazon associates has great interface.

@leo98 I would not try it again using Amazon. I run some really old sites or 10 year old sites and got horrible results using amazon. I don't know what happened I usually get better results during the holidays but it was the opposite.

But as affiliate links on domain I know it works but you need additional traffic to make it pay off. Its really hard to scale or grow. You will notice searching the Epik marketplace which monetizes their domains using affiliate links http://marketplace.epik.com/v3 You will notice only 1000 domains make money out of the 16000 domains listed in the marketplace.

Any hints on how to find these companies willing to buy ad space?

I wish a namepros member whould brag about how much he made last month and this month so will feel more positive about 2014.
