Hi
My Long sad story cut short-
Yahoo small business has renewed my domains 2 weeks in advance and have charged $34+
In desperation and to save any more renewals I have canceled all of them.

My Question-
How to get a refund?

I heard transferring domains is a way to get refund. In this case that I have canceled the services,is there any way??

Please help me.$3*34 is too much a burden on a student's pocket

I don't think you can get a refund. The renewal schedule was already mentioned in your Yahoo contract when you signed-up to the domain plan.

You can try calling them up though, and speak to a Yahoo Tech Support person and see if they can do something.

However, since you already cancelled your plan, i believe you would have to deal with Melbourne IT already in Australia. Yahoo is just a Melbourne IT reseller. I had a domain cancelled once in the past, and the Yahoo guy insisted they can't do anything about it anymore and told me to call up the guys in Australia. Long story short, my overseas phone bill was going to cost me more than the domain itself so i just let it drop. It's a good thing it was a "brandable", and Andrew Reberry wasn't interested. I picked it up again after the drop at reg fee.

In order to ensure that domains are renewed in a timely manner without an interruption of service, each domain billed through Yahoo will be renewed 15 days prior to each annual anniversary (multi-year domains will be renewed 15 days prior to the end of the last year).

You may terminate your Service at any time by completing the online cancellation form located at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/services. Please note, you will not be entitled to a refund of any fees, either initial or renewal fees, you have paid to Yahoo in the event you terminate your Service.

Unfortunately, you won't get a refund from Yahoo, and now that you submitted a cancellation order, you will lose the domains you already paid for.

Either call Yahoo and try to "cancel" your cancel order, but it may already be too late. Last thing is as Alien51 suggested, to contact Melbourne IT.

Hi
Thanks Razor and alien for your replies.
Just for the update on the topic and for people who face any such problems later on -
A partial Refund is possible in such cases where $34.95 has been charged when the domain has been renewed and full refund when it has still not been renewed.

I got $25 refund on my domains.

You need to write a mail to [email protected] for such issues

Thanks

When that happened to me, I called & explained that my domains were renewed prematurely.
The rep apologized, acting like it was a system glitch.
Then I got the full refund for the canceled renewals.
I believe I was able to transfer some names before the actual expiration date.
YMMV.

I suggest getting your domains out of Yahoo ASAP.

Somewhere on this forum are some long posts about my woes with Yahoo.

Long story short: I basically told Yahoo to F*ck off, and then did a charge back on my cc, the ONLY time I have ever done a charge back.

There was sweet justice in all this. I got my money back from the cc company AND Yahoo. I tried to give the charge back money back to the cc company, but the support person said, "Don't worry about it." She implied that Yahoo is a problem company.

A tip: AFTER you transfer your domains out, you have to cancel your domains on your panel because they will remain as ghost domains, and you will be automatically charged for them, even though they're no longer there.

Sweet, huh?

I think the only reason why anyone would reg at Yahoo, is to get their 1.99 dolllar promo.

You should transfer out after 60 days.

The reason why Yahoo can afford to give 1.99 promo, is because so many people forget to cancel their domains (eventhough it's stated on the registration contract). So just one guy getting screwed with that $34 renewal, is enough to cover the losses of giving away 17 discounted domains.

It's a nice bet, actually.

I'd rather use a $1.99 coupon at Go Daddy than go through any nonsense with Yahoo.

Yes, because many people forget the rules they sign-on to. I was screwed by Yahoo twice. But when i figured out the trick, i came back with a vengeance and retaliated by regging almost 100 domains with them for just 1.99. I was never screwed since.

But i'm not sure if they are still offering 1.99 domains nowadays.
