Need some help with understanding backorders at Name.com
I saw one great single keyword name expiring on Name.com and fortunately it said it's available for backorder because the owner didn't renew it and it went into the Autorenew period. Autorenew period is where Name.com (registrar) auto renews the expiring name by itself and waits for 66 days after expiry.
You are perhaps also aware that Name.com takes only one backorder for the expiring name. So, I got the successful backorder mail from Name.com. I checked WHOIS and could see the Owner Info.
Now, about 4 days later, I see the domain is on sale at Name.com while the WHOIS still says:
Domain Status: autoRenewPeriod
Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited
Registrant Name: Whois Agent
The domain has now gone under privacy. The domain is actually a five letter single word well worth $250k+.
Now the question is: Why the WHOIS still shows the domain status as autoRenewPeriod if original owner has renewed it?
Could Name.com try to screw you if they feel they should keep the name for themselves since they are letting a valuable name get away for a $50 backorder?
