Well this may be more of a rant but with the new year coming up and so many diffrent things going on in the domain world im not sure what direction to go.

The big talk for this year seems to be development...Build and they will come type of talk. Building a site is more then a simple webpage and content. You must also think of driving in traffic (if the domain name already does not have a following) market the site, promote etc.

So lets take a look and see if this is the route to go before myself and others spend goobs of money and tons of time building sites that may be a waste of time.

Lets say you get a fresh reg say NewBikePedals4U.com (please only for purpose of this post) and it has no way back record, no former website, no traffic nothing, fresh as a new borns ass. So you decide to build a site around this domain since NewBikePedals is a product related name but not THE actual product.

So now you use Xsitepro (which im really tempted to get if it does all it says it can) and throw up some affiliate links pertaining to this product (so in the case of bike pedals I may add some bike part affilaite banners, bikes for sales etc)
and make it look halfway decent.

Say this happens 1-1-09 and I finish the site 1-5-09. I now have 25 days to promote, market, network do all I can to get the word out on this brand new site that has no traffic, no visitors no nothing.

What do you do. In that 25 days how much money do you invest into that marketing. Remember this is to be an affiliate site so your looking to MAKE MONEY from those afiliates and build up the site to lets say $100 a month in income. Is it worth it to throw so much money and time into a project like this.

Most domainers unless they are buying traffic related domains, the domain itself has little traffic unless it was once a website.

So my questions is....Is it worth it at all to go this route and can it be done? Anyone have examples of this scenario they like to share? Development is good if the domain is right but im on the fence on doing to much with nothing to show for it.

Thanx for your input...

Have I taken a brand new domain and made money from it within a month? Yes, but I've been doing aff marketing for several years now and know what I'm doing :).

Why are you limiting yourself to a month to show a profit? It could take most of that time just for the site to get indexed. I have sites that make many times your goal of $100/month, but they didn't get to that point overnight.

First thing you need to understand is that affiliate marketing isn't like parking. It makes no difference how many people click through to the merchants' sites unless they buy something.

If you throw up a site with a bunch of affiliate ads and little to nothing else and just drive random traffic at it, you're not likely to make much money. If you pay to send traffic (Adwords, MSN, etc.) to a site like that, you're very likely to lose money.

Build content to support the ads and give your visitors a site that adds some value, and then it's a different story :). Visitors will like you, Google will like you.

XSitePro is OK, but it's basically just a site builder. Successful affiliates are salespeople for their merchants - the more seriously you take that role the better you'll do.

Thanx for your input. Reason I was stating say a months time is most domainers have hundreds of domains to develop. And I was saying affiliate sites to better monitze (sp) the site. Dont get me wrong im not looking for a million dollars a day type thing just want to know is this the route to go.

If as you say one month is not enough time to market the site then if we as domainers have thousands of domains we will never built the "right site". Am I wrong?

well, you just have to learn how to manage your time and money efficiently and work with the limited resources... such as not a very good keyword domain.... only one way to find out though if it was all worth it or not at the end of the day and that is to jump in and do it

trial and error... it works pretty effectively ;)

Good advice.....Just got a copy of Xsite so we will see what 2009 brings! If anyone here is or has used Xsite Pro post your sites and reviews on what that particular site has done for you!

I am looking to use xsitepro to get started developing some sites, beginning with my own domain sales site. Would love to hear some stories of how it's working for people - or are there better alternatives for those of us who are tehnically illiterate when it comes to development/programming?
