Ok, I noticed someone has been registering WWW TYPOS of some of my domains!!!
First of all...**** HIM OR HER!!! ;)
...
Second, is this still even worth it???
Especially, as I remember, ICANN ruled AGAINST the use of WWW in front of domains since its a waste of time and in big corporations "time is money"!!!
...
Anyone care to put in their 2 cents on this issue???
...
Thanks!

I think you fell for an April Fool's Day joke there.

What do you mean by www typos? Something like wwwnamepros.com? They would get traffic yes, if the site they were squatting on is a popular one. But it's still considered cybersquatting and illegal.

They can just see the dispute money rolling in.

You'd probably get in to a bit of a pickle if you messed with a big company and regged 'www' version of their name though.

Unless it's a generic term. But then, it still depends on the domains' OVT+extension results, as to whether it would be a good candidate for being a "www" typo or not, in my experience with them. I've got a few loan typos of this type that more than pay for themselves.

But, as time goes by, www typos will become less and less relevant as internet users are already getting away from even typing www into their URL bars anymore, IMO.

Both good points.

Yes, just like wwwnamepros.com! (BTW, do you own that Ron? ;))
...
Unfortunately my domains were "generic", BUT like capiche says I trully believe less and less people type in the "www"...so like I originally said, **** THEM and I hope they don't make a cent on cybersquatting my domains!!! :hehe:
...
What April Fool's joke?
Isn't it true that you don't have to type the "www" anymore for any web address?
...
And also, most cybersquatters are not scared off by even Big Corporations!

No, I don't own wwwnamepros.com and have no interest in it. I hope whoever bought it will find it to be a waste of a reg fee.

In your original post you said "ICANN ruled AGAINST the use of WWW in front of domains." If you were referring to this article, then you were fooled. It is true that people are using it less, but use of "www." hasn't been banned, nor will it ever be. That news was just a joke.

DITTO RJ!!!
Same goes for my cybersquatters! 8-X
I'll make sure it doesn't even cover their reg fee!! ;)
...
Looks like your cybersquatter is conveniently using NameDrive to earn parking revenue!!!
But who cares...cause like you guys said, people are going to use "www" in front LESS and LESS now!!!

Namepro.com owned by a cyber squater as well. Must be your #1 enemy! B-)

I think its not so bad.
As long the domain name does not have a TM it should not be any problem.

Ron, your cybersquatter guy (some Ronan Dunphy from Dublin) unfortunately probably IS making reg fee back: Alexa rank is 4,449,028!
namepro.com is even higher at: 1,982,873!!
...
BTW, anybody heard of DOMAINDOORMAN, LLC (domaindoorman.com), Domain Drop S.A. (domaindropsa.com) or MAISON TROPICALE S.A. (maisontropicale.com) and belgiumdomains.com???
...
PLEASE TELL ME ANYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM!
...
THANKS!

Even if its a generic term, I think it'd still be pretty easy to prove it's cybersquatting. I mean there domain serves absolutely no purpose but to monetize off of typos from your domain. That seems like it would be fairly evident to a WIPO panel, but who knows. It probably isn't worth the hassle to go through the process, but a C&D cant hurt :)

that is a touchy subject. Alot of people dont use the www. prefix anymore. But yes. it does generate traffic but usually not that much. it all depends on the site.

No regarding your problem. i would contact that person. Also, look at your traffic stats... see how your domains are accessed. with and without the www.

If someone has a generic name that's simply parked making $1000 - $2000 / year in ppc, why would they pay to file a wipo for a www typo making 10-15% of that? If they did, however, I'd be curious to see if they'd win. If (for example) both games.com and wwwgames.com were showing ppc ads, I'd have a hard time seeing a ruling in favor of the non-typo.

A C&D is just a Cease and Desist letter... Basically you just write to them telling them that they are infringing your TM or cybersquatting, whatever, and tell them to hand the domain over to you. It wont always work, but it's usually worth a try.

I have no problem with people registering typos of my sites, it just shows that i have improved and my sites got even more valuable. I dont feel that im ripped off in any way. They might take 0,1% of my traffic, but if it wasnt regged i would still lose it, the ones that made typo will realize the mistake at some point. When i first saw a typo of one of my sites i was happy, because i knew it is due to the popularity... :)
