I am trying to figure out if it is better to advertise your site with or without the www. in front of your URL? When it says enter your URL, which is better...?

http://??? or http://www.???

I know they will land on the same page, but eventually they will show backlinks. Do they get indexed differently in search engines? Does it even matter?

I have a website web AJAX script, which produces JavaScript error if i open it without "www", and no error if i open it with "www".

Just like everyone and their grandparents are use to .com by now, everyone is also use to seeing www as part of the domain- it's almost standard even though it's not required at all. Every single one of my sites redirects to the www subdomain if the user is on the domain all by itself... looks more like what people are expecting to see in their URL.

It's crap that they had to start using that www when the net started, but what can ya do... stick with what people are use to and keep it simple!

When i have no "www", my AJAX raises an exception (visible in my Firefox). I have no idea if the problem is on my AJAX coding.
But when i use "www", it works well.

I much prefer the use of 'www'. Looks better in most cases IMO. :tu:

You should make sure that your ajax call is pointing to exactly the same URL that is in the address bar -- in order words, echo that URL into your Javascript to make sure it's calling the same domain - because you may be requesting a whole new connection if you're on the www and then you're ajax is requesting differently....

Well, thats great. In some sites, we have to use www. Otherwise, it will give error. May be it is due to nameserver pointing error.

I like without www.
yes, I agree some server won't support domain without www. But nowadays many server support www. So you don't need to worry about www.

I use http://www as it gives the users the complete address and is moreover looks professional instead of just using http://
