Hey guys!
I got an email yesterday from someone who wants to buy one of my domains.
He got to me by the voodoo landing page, and the offer was straight forward, $2K (USD).

Domain name -

ⓓⓞⓝⓣⓞⓟⓔⓝ.ⓒⓞⓜ

I'm not hungry for bread, hence my question -
Being in my shoes... Would you sell it or keep it?
Is that estimation right on spot or way off track?

Cheers fella's

:kickass:

Using paypal for possible $x,xxx transaction?
Are you sure?

We could have a quick deal, and even save a couple of bucks from the Sedo service, by using paypal right away.
Let me know what you think,
XXX

Yes, I'm sure.
Better than using the Sedo escrow and THEN paypal...
I'm cutting the fees by two. (or I could always use escrow.com).
BTW guys, don't forget that I searched his name and email -
It's under a big manufacturer of wireless products etc.
The reply I gave them shouldn't back them off...

I agree that asking for a PayPal transaction "right away" may seem sketchy for the buyer.

You should really look into Escrow for anything $x,xxx.

Short, friendly, and professional:
That's the magic triangle for closing end user sales. And I mean REAL short. For future reference, whenever you receive an offer and it's less than you want, the following statement is ideal for continuing healthy negotiations:

Hello _______;
Thank you, that is a good offer, just a little less than I wanted.
Looking for $5K for this domain.
Thanks again for contacting me.
Sincerely,
_____________

No explanations, nothing uncomfortable. Guaranteed to keep negotiations fluid and active. If they counter, or hard line their original offer, keep your responses this short, open, honest and polite. Never enter the game of 'explaining' things, debating, or even worse, arguing and justifying. Ever.

Even if they hard line their offer, just respond 'Thank you, I can tell you're serious, but I can't accept the amount you're offering. Thanks again'.

- Keep thanking them, because they are an interested buyer and even if they're lowballing you, they're still making a serious offer. Be thankful for each email from them no matter how lowball. And if they become unpleasant or insistent... don't use that as an excuse to lose yourself and forget the magic triangle of 'short, friendly and professional'. Stick to it with every email

IMHO :)

Oh, and to answer your original question: I'd let this name go for 2K with no regrets... but if that was the first offer, I'd counter at 5K and settle for 3K or above. I'd appraise it as worth $1200 minimum to an end user, up to an optimistic but still sober ceiling of around 4 - 6K.

Bannen, it's a really good line-up you've provided me.
I sure will use it next time (I'm getting emails once a week).
It's really short and to the point. straight to the target. I like that.
As for what I've already replied... in other words it IS a counter -
I mean "you offered 2, I want 7.5, feel free to raise your offer".
Although I didn't mentioned a specific number, he'll get the point.

I think you should have taken the $2k for it honestly. With the economy where it is today he very well may take the other guys name for $5k before paying you $7.5..

I would have countered with $4k..pointing out that the other guy wants more for the longer version..then probably let him re-counter with $3k..and taken it..Who knows, maybe he takes the $4k! Either way, you can't be mad with an extra $1k-$2k on his initial offer.

Aside from all that..the name doesn't have allot of potential end user value..How much money did you have in it for $2k not to be a big enough return on your investment??!

I never said it won't return my investment...
Neither saying I'm mad for replying as I've done.
Keep in mind that I double-checked this email of him,
Finding out he's someone from that big wifi company etc...
What ever will be - I'll be glad with the outcome.
I really said what I felt and I assume I'll get it done.
Will keep you posted, friends!

Don't mess up the sale.

You're not going to get another offer for years.

NEVER tell a buyer why the should own a domain. They offered, they know why they want/need it.

Would have said thanks, but it is too low - can you increase it at all?

Sometimes I can't tell if people are being sarcastic or serious. Can you please tell me do you really get offers such as this every once a week? Really? If yes how many domains do you actually own? And where are you parking them?

I probably get this -- I own 550.

Probably (as an average) once a month it is serious, though.

I agree with Bannen, except i wouldn't even write "thats a good offer" and "just a little less" and such things.

BTW, @TRADER, please keep such discussions out of domain related threads. If you want to talk about politics, do it in the "break room" section.

@Trader... don't know where you're from, but -
"Israel don't get any tourists"?? you're so wrong.
If 3 million arrivals aren't much, I don't know what is.

@newbie191 - I have something like 500 domains.
I park them on voodoo, namedrive, sedo and some aren't parked at all.
I never said I'm getting huge offers each week -
But the average is about 300 bucks which I turn down.

@Pound, you are right. I will reply like that next time. the "friendly way".

UPDATES -

The potential buyer replied me and said that he can't pay 7.5.
I then replied him with many thankful words and appreciation -
And asked if he can increase it up a bit and we'll close the deal.

Lets see if this way is the way to get a closure to it. "friendly" :)

I think he'd take the domain for $3k and I think that's a very good sale price considering the domain is (:imho:) not worth anywhere near that much to the vast majority of potential end users. You'll probably be sat on the domain for a long time before you receive an offer of $2k+ again.
