Hey guys!
I got an email yesterday from someone who wants to buy one of my domains.
He got to me by the voodoo landing page, and the offer was straight forward, $2K (USD).

Domain name -

ⓓⓞⓝⓣⓞⓟⓔⓝ.ⓒⓞⓜ

I'm not hungry for bread, hence my question -
Being in my shoes... Would you sell it or keep it?
Is that estimation right on spot or way off track?

Cheers fella's

:kickass:

As a rule of thumb, I always decline the first offer, regardless of the amount. They usually can afford to offer a bit more than their introductory offer.

I know what you mean, Kevin...
But just to deny? Counter it up?
I don't wanna make them run away,
On the other side - get the most ;)

If you're in need of cash and your knee-jerk reaction was to take the offer, I would counter with $3-4k.

Otherwise, I would just say something like "Thanks, but no thanks." and let them make the next move. Keep in mind that this may mean losing the offer, but if they are seriously interested, they will likely make another offer or ask for your price.

Alternatively, you could forward the email to one of the experienced domain brokers here in the forums and let them work their magic :)

I see...
Would you recommend the option of putting it up on Sedo?
I mean, putting it there and providing a link of the sale to that buyer?
Then hope to get more bids on it, and wrap it up from there...

I think that just adds friction to the process, then you've got to pay Sedo's commission. And for this particular domain, I'm not sure you'll find many other bidders to hike up the price as much as a good broker could.

I would immediately accept that offer for that name..in all honesty , it's not that great of a name..

Donot open dot com owner (probably your biggest competitor wants a minimum offer of 5k. This might be as high as you can push it until they knock on another door. Goodluck

its a great name! very Halloween, scary, plus more if one sat down and thought about it. Maybe safty

From my experience being on the buying end, I always offer less than I'm willing to pay (somewhat hoping to score the name at a low price). I usually offer around 70% of what I want to spend. This gives me a little room to haggle if possible.

If they counter with less than 150% of what I wanted to spend, I try to get as close to my original price as possible (sometimes paying a little more). If they counter with more than 150% of what I wanted to spend, I break off communication.

If this guy follows my crazy logic (which I doubt), it would mean he would probably be willing to go to $2,700-2,800.

I, personally, would counter with $3,600. Hopefully this is in the 125-140% range of what he's looking to spend. He should then counter back with around $2,500 and you should be able to work him up to the $2,700 range.

Then again, I probably just overanalyze everything... :P

My one is better than this "do not open dot com", way better.
If he's willing to get $5K on his, mine should be on the ~7-8 range.
The sedo fees don't bother me (if the price will be right, LOL).
Would putting it up for a BIN of $7.5K -
Then promising him an auction if he'll offer these $2K be reasonable?
Yes, it's right I might not get any bidders and that's the end of it.

Hello XXXX!
Thank you for kind your offer, but I will decline it and I'll tell you why -
The owner of the domain Do Not Open com wants $5K on it.
You could imagine mine, Dont Open com - is shorter, catchier and much more brandable.
It's a top of the line domain for Halloween, Movies, Scary stuff, Horror, Safety items etc.
The BIN on that domain is set on $7.5K USD
If you have a better figure in mind (no lowball, please), let me know.
I'm not going to counter offer, because I have no time for these games.
We could have a quick deal, and even save a couple of bucks from the Sedo service, by using paypal right away.
Let me know what you think,
XXX

Feels like your talking way too much. Sounds like your actually overly eager to sell it. And alerting the buyer to another name. Plus 5k would be its min offer, not necessarily the price he/she would sell it for. But goodluck. %%-

Yes, "I'll tell you way" might provide him more details to consider his next offer.
I don't see anything wrong with helping him pumping up his offer for this domain.
So yeah, it might be a cultural mis-spelling or something like that, but that's it ;)

I dont mean only the "I'll tell you way" but the whole "spiel" def= 'A lengthy or extravagant speech or argument usually intended to persuade.'

Just my opinion goodluck

I tried to get cute last year when I got a fair offer and countered. The deal was lost and it taught me a lesson.

You should take the money and run! If you manage to get them up a bit, it would be wise to use escrow.com instead of PayPal.

Geez. If I offered $2K and you called that lowball and then pointed me to a better name initially offered at $5K I don't need to tell you what I'm doing right now...

And by the logic I listed in my first post, I wouldn't even respond to that counter offer. It actually seems somewhat hostile as though you were offended by the offer.

What you need to remember is that the owner of donotopen.com is *WANTING* to get $5,000. I highly doubt he would get it.

I would be very surprised if you close this deal now.

Very bad idea imho, for several reasons:
  • who cares about how much the owner of the other domain is asking. You should not price your domains based on other similar domains.
  • people are free to set any prices on domains, just because the other domain is priced at 5K doesn't mean it's worth 5K or is ever going to sell.
  • worse, there is a chance the interested party didn't check this name yet, now you suggested a cheaper alternative to them.
  • in other words you are telling the potential buyer you are greedy, you didn't quote a price you think is fair, instead you priced the domain higher than your 'competitor'.
I wouldn't consider the opening 2K offer insulting, you seem to have a serious buyer and a bona fide offer, don't burn bridges :talk:
Personally that reminds me of the guys who quote nonsense estibot appraisals to justify their asking price, I would walk away.

Thank you all for your honest replies...
You have some good points there, but it's done.
I sure will update you guys if there's a deal at last!
He might run away, he might fold and pay. no rush for a sale.
