Wordpress RSS Blog Feeds and Pinging

I've installed wordpress for the first time and I see that there's an xml feed link that is provided for you. Can someone please explain what this is all about? Does this mean that others can now post my content on their website easily? And, also what is this whole idea of pinging. When I make a new entry on my blog does it ping others who are interested in my feed so that they can decide whether they want to include that entry on their website? Have I got the whole idea somewhat right? Please enlighten me.

Blog pinging sends details of your post to a server so that it is indexed.

try feednation.com and make sure your title/tag is properly set find your rss feed from there, if it's still not listed, then use pingoat.com to list/ping it on several rss directory

Is it just me or is there no website located at feednation.com?
