I installed a new WP theme to get a feel of the process of adding a new theme and of course i had to run into some trouble.

The themes couldn't be used because they where broken as it seems.

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
Name Description
blackphoto-10 Stylesheet is missing.
newspaper-10 Stylesheet is missing.

I have unzipped the theme zip file and ftp'd it all to the theme folder where the other default themes are residing.

I don't get what i have done wrong, the stylesheet is missing? When i look at the files of the theme i uploaded i see style.css as well among the other files.

So how could it be missing?

These are all the files i have transferred:

I unzipped the .zip file and just placed it in the themes folder where the defaults themes are, i have not removed any files so i am totally confused here :-/

Could someone be so kind to help me out on this?

P.S.
Does anyone know of a very active WP forum by the way?

You should upload the folder in which the template files are, not in which the template files folder is. For example, if the template files folder is nicetemplate, and in which there is another folder named nicetemplate, and inside the second folder there are template files, just upload the second nicetemplate folder.

I hope you understand.

 Not really.

Here is a pic of how i uploaded the theme folder:

As you can see they are uploaded to the folder where the default themes reside.
When i click on the "Themes" folder it shows the two default themes "Classic" and "Default" and i uploaded the two new themes right under them, thus in the correct folder i presume?

i've had a few templates (out of many) that also say "style sheet missing." I don't know if there's an issue with some templates or if those ones require an extra widget or something else not present.

For most templates, all you need to do is upload that new template (folder) to the templates folder. So it would look like this:

folder: templates
subfolder: newtemplate1
another subfolder: newtemplate2

i would suggest downloading a couple other templates to see if those work.
it's also possible that older templates might not always work with WP2.0 and higher

Yes, this could be the problem, i have the latest version i guess since i downloaded WP and installed it just a few days ago.
But my uploads where placed in the correct folder right?

Then the cause must be related to the templates themself. I will download a bunch of them and see what happens.

Yesterday I uploaded a template almost-spring and found this error. Actually there were no files in almost-spring folder, because in almost-spring folder there was another folder named almost-spring, and in the inner folder were the files. So I uploaded only the inner folder.

First it was wp-content>themes>almost-spring>almost-spring>style

What I did wp-content>themes>almost-spring>style

My template found style file and worked

I just added a couple of more themes but the same problem keeps reoccuring.
This is getting frustrating, i think i am doing everything right but somehow it's not working for me.

I fixed it :) Above in bold was the problem.
Very sneaky mistake one can make.
Thanks Techie!
