WISCONSINGAZETTE.COM led the action on Sunday, the publication shut down in 2018. From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: The newspaper’s publisher, Louis Weisberg, said the Gazette never broke even during its time in publication. The Gazette did not attract enough print advertising to sustain the publication and the owner, Leonard Sobczak, had been supporting the paper, […]

It sounds like the WISCONSINGAZETTE.COM were behind the times.

Newspapers are dying because news is mostly available for free online, and online advertising revenue is controlled by some big players, but it doesn't necessarily mean that professional reporting will follow the same path.

The correct implementation of subscription services and paywalls by decent news media websites who are producing unique content can stabilise and increase online circulation, while saving print production costs and doing less damage to the environment.

It's a hard balance to get right, but some of the bigger publishers are succeeding at this after a hard decade of experimentation.

So would you throw up a news feeder site and redirect the backlinks to it and throw up some ads?

Or work on a proper blog, development project?

If I had the time and resources, I'd develop something by producing unique content that I was interested in and gave me enjoyment - like you are doing with your Wales site :)

EDIT: I've got a few projects in the works but it's just so hard to make the time...

If someone has 36k lying around for a domain, pretty sure they have some spare change for development :xf.smile:

Suppose it would boil down to time commitments more than anything else, will be interesting to see what happens with it.....

I do like reading about these SEO domains and seeing what happens next, seems to be a strong market for them

Sorry, I took your original question completely out of context concerning the Wisconson site.
I'm juggling too many things at the moment...

    So for that site?
I'd probably make a deal with other local publishers to produce and share quality locally produced content behind a paywall, but make the national and world news section free utilising licensed copy from Reuters, AP, wires services etc. Also an opinion section/blog written by unpaid community leaders in government & politics, social services, the arts, sports etc. for visitor interaction and feedback.

Worked on a similar strategy here years ago with a news media company, and it worked out.

Nothing wrong with it at all - the paper simply folded so the domain name was up for grabs ;)
