Just because stores wont be getting any more in, it doesnt mean you cant still buy it. Go to http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2571830&CatId=672 to buy it. These guys will have it for quite a while I imagine. Its an OEM version of it so its alot cheaper than the retail version. That is the site where I got my Vista CD. I was able to get it for around 50% off what the store usually charges.

Oh, haha. My bad. Actually its not really the store's fault. The store has to sell whatever Microsoft gives them. If Microsoft stops shipping XP to the store, then once the store sells out, thats it. That is basically how it works. Its like when I wanted to get a restore disk for windows 2000 from IBM. IBM told me that Microsoft wont sell them licenses for 2000 anymore. So they said they had to give me an xp pro license instead. Personally I liked Windows 2000 Professional. XP Pro is basically the same thing but has a few graphical improvements :)

It kinda says something when Vista is failing so badly they have to force people to use it - and have already announced Windows 7 with a ton of new features.
Of course, there was a later announcement saying most of the previously announced Windows 7 features (like a new kernel!) wouldn't be implemented.

I'm using Vista. At 1st, I wasn't wanting to get a laptop with Vista but since all of them came with it, I had no choice but to go with it.

Vista isn't that bad, people. Settle down. :)

I actually like it a lot more than XP.

Windows vista is OK, if you have a powerful desktop or hefty desktop replacement laptop with a ton of resources and you do not get vista basic.

Windows XP is far quicker to my thinking and if you know what you are doing, at least as secure and more configurable.

For the average laptop, I would go XP every time. Using a laptop for what it is supposed to be for, road warrior style, I have found vista to be a pain, hooking up to unknown wireless networks etc. Vista not allowing me to do what should normally be an obvious action, windows defender etc.

maybe I am biased, I also prefer linux on my laptop.

I'll be getting a new Toshiba laptop soon, and of course it will come with Vista. The only reason I'm not going for a laptop with Linux preinstalled is because I've found Toshiba laptops to be very resiliant - I have yet to have one break by itself.
Needless to say, within minutes of getting it Vista will be gone.

My wife has VIsta on her laptop and she loves it, personally though I want a version of windows that is stripped down with all the useless junk and all the semi-transparent edges and nice touches they do to make it look nice.

Perhaps they should do a Windows Vista Lite. A super efficient version that only contains what you need to run your applications.

Yeah my wife just got a laptop with Vista...and I quickly removed it and loaded xp. I work in IT and its really bad when no one in my department wants to use it. Personally I think its ok but I'm fine sticking with xp.

I run Vista on a desktop, and it's not that bad. The only real issue I'd say to steer clear of is don't get Vista Home Basic as it seems quite buggy. My roomate works for two computer companies so he's about to get certified in Vista and he'd told me the complaints I had are pretty much the same he's seen. There really seems to be an issue with Home Basic as it will take litterally 15-30 mins to shut down. Some of the updates won't work and I had eventually had trouble playing a game after a forced update. I went to upgrade to Vista Business and was unable to do it so I had to wipe the whole thing.

Vista certainly is visually appealing, but they need to go back to the reliability of XP. I knew they'd stop selling it eventually, at least they haven't dropped support for it...yet.

Did you guys know that they've hired a huge marketing firm to help with the next release? I suppose if you fail at actually making the product better, you can make the product's image better.

Their policy for support and updates use to be the current release + 1, So they will support XP and release updates until the next version of windows is released. Of course they don't always stick to this, but when I worked as a sales rep for Microsoft back in the mid 90's it was there policy then.

Thats just like Microsoft to force Vista on people. I just purchased a Laptop for college and it has Vista Home Premium and it dosen't seem to be that bad at all, but then again I haven't used it that much compared to WinXP.
