Hard Drive Failure?

I rarely ever turn my PC off. Well last night I decided to because the past couple of weeks, my PC's performance has been going down the shitter.

When I woke up this morning, I tried to turn it on. A prompt came up saying no operating system found.

Thank GOD I decided to back-up all the important things (except my pictures! ) last night with my USB flash drive! I can't believe it..

I went into like the set-up and it said that it does not have any hard drives (which my PC has 2..).

What do you guys think happened? Hardware failure? Specifically, hard drive failure?

Man I am so depressed right now. I'm on the laptop I am trying to sell on eBay which sells in 2 days. I wasn't planning on using the funds that sell the laptop to buy a new computer.

Not only that, but now listing the laptop for sale makes me regret it.

I have the option for master drive and slave drive...but I don't think I saw any options.
When I put the Windows XP Professional CD in to re-install Windows, it said that no hard drives were detected.

What does that mean? I am sure nothing good..

Check your IDE cable or try with a replacement, sometimes it's just the connections hence the system does not see the drive (if you are lucky).

Looking into it, it appeared that the cable disconnected from the hard drive overnight.

There must have been a small earthquake or something...that something that paranormal would just happen so randomly like that. :p

So that is on the better note.

I still have to buy a new computer though...probably going to sell this one on eBay, trade it in somewhere, or just use it for parts.
