Hello NamePros
I was thinking of reformatting my harddrive this weekend and installing Windows XP x64. I currently have Windows XP Professional (32-bit) and my processor, an AMD 64 3500+, supports the 64 bit feature so I thought I should give it a go.
The biggest question I have is whether or not I can run all my old applications (32-bit) on the 64-bit OS. Although I know that most programs aren't released in 64-bit editions, I'd like to be able to run the few that are as well as all my other programs.
Do you think installing x64 is a good idea? Here are my computer specs:
AMD 64 3500+ @ 2.2ghz
1.0GB of DDR RAM
200GB HDD
19" LCD Monitor
Integrated Graphics
Although I am sure that x64 won't make too much of a change in terms of speed, I'm only going to install it if it is better than the 32-bit. If i can run all the 32-bit programs, as well as some 64-bit programs, then I have that added feature which I can take advantage of when 64-bit programs become released.
