Anybody going to be upgrading in a couple of weeks when it is released? I won a free retail copy of Vista Business from http://powertogether.com/ when they were doing the promotion a month or so ago, so I will be. I may sell that and buy Home Premium though, as I really have no need for the Business edition.

Anyone else upgrading? I hope its worth the wait. I was so fed up with XP I'm running Ubuntu right now, but I will be giving Vista a shot.

I'm on Windows Vista Ultimate at the moment (all stable) after my brother got it as he's apart of some Windows software crew. It's not much different, just looks more sleek and shiny. Default installation time is only 15 minutes :)

The Australian Government said they weren't going to upgrade to Vista as it was too $$$ and not that different.

Here's what you can expect:

:tu: Ultimately, everyone's gonna upgrade :p

I am considering getting XP MXE with the free upgrade to home premium, imo it makes sense to do that in terms of saving money, but i'm not 100% convinced that it will be worth it

Its a little stupid tbh as many computers aren't ready for it.

Take PCWorld (A UK crap PC retailer -- the only UK pc retailer of its size, its the Walmart of PC stores). They pretty much only sell computers with integrated 32meg gfx cards and usually with a maximum of 512mb RAM.

Running Vista on one of their pc's would be suicidal, as they don't meet the minimum requirements.

IMHO I think that if the software support existed for Mac or Unix then people would switch.

All vista is, is another crappy version of Windows with the same bugs, but just yet another new look...exactly like XP was a few years ago.

Where did you get that information from? PC World is definately not the best place to buy PCs (ironically) but they are a little better than that. Check the website.

As for Vista, i have many reasons why i don't want it...many of which you have read about and don't wish to again so i won't bore you. Personally i want a computer that works at a reasonable speed and without all these useless features and fancy effects. That is why i am sticking with XP. I am quite happy with it, and despite it's origin i have no problems with it.

I will of course upgrade to Vista when it's necessary, there will come a time as there did with 98 when it is no longer viable to run XP. Having said that i am buying a mac for college,i have this thing about them - really like them :D

I'll definitely be upgrading to it when I get a chance. I'm having some issues with XP, so I can't wait until I do upgrade.

I will not upgrade.
When I buy a new laptop next year I will buy it with a more "stable" vista.

Hardware will be more made for Vista and the software will be a less
bug free (from all the reply's of all the test customers)

Yeah...early adopting may as well be called "Vista Public Beta 1" :p

The drivers still haven't been developed for half my hardware so I wont be upgrading. Im toying with the idea of getting a Mac and running a virtual copy of XP on it so that when i do need windows (not often) i can use it.

I am just doing that and enjoying my new mac to the max, with windows installed on the side. For those interested, you will find, some of the new vista features were part of Mac OS X Tiger, for a long time.

No gonna stick with XP till my computer explodes and then I am going FreeBSD...I have had enough of Windows and it's pricing. It's a $100 MINIMUM to upgrade and a new full license is $250. That's close to the cost of a nice low-end PC.

I wouldn't bother getting it if you have anything less than a Gig of ram

I build my own systems, and buy OEM copies of Windows, so they are much cheaper than retail. Full version of XP Home is about $80. The only released prices for Vista so far are retail, which will be much more than OEM. I probably wouldn't upgrade right away, but I'm getting a free copy, so why not?
