How do I upgrade from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista without losing my data? Is it possible I can pop in the disc and just "upgrade"?

Is Windows Vista out already? Or do you just have the beta?

You should wait until at least beta 2 comes out until thinking about updating.

I would nearly say to wait until the finished product is realeased.

A clean hard drive partition and reformat is the way to go when installing a new operating system,Although you can load it over winXP i wouldn't advise it.You have two ways to collect your data from your XP OS.Take and put all your files into a created file and burn them to disc with your cd writer if you have one.The second way is to take your machine into your local PC repair shop and the will ghost your hard drive files to your vista OS.Good luck yo ya,And i await the vista OS to test on one of my machines aswell.

If you want to install it then partion your harddrive and install it on the new partion Vista requires 9GB of space, just installed it the other day and it wont let you install on any partion that is less than 9GB even though the actual operating system only takes up 4GB.

Same opinion here...

( even after the realeased it, i would wait a few months for the first
(security) updates )

Yeah the Beta is for sure bugged up. I would wait until they have it all settled. I checked there website and they probably will have something soon to be tested that isn't as bugged.

How do you actually get the beta, i see no download options anywhere?

I would go with others, create a partition!
