Hi All,

Recently, Apple Inc acquired "Shazam" for $400,000,000. Would they rename the brand? Say if they want to retain the brand name and also have a share of Apple in the name. What would be the new brand name?

NO - Why?
YES - New Brand Name

Shazam itself has been around for some time and is a known name in its own right. Part of the reason it sold for that amount(aside from the fact that it can quickly identify songs, tv shows, and movies with great accuracy and that there aren’t many other apps that can do all that), is the brand identity. HOWEVER, that’s not to say Apple can’t rebrand.....but given their latest acquisitions, I’d say they won’t. Siri was a voice recognition and response software they bought and they retained that name, they’ve retained the beats name, and a host of others BUT, it is nice to speculate what name they’d use in case that domain happens to be available and at the hand reg fee.....

I agree with triplec0086. The company has been around for what, 15 years and has never changed its brand name? I think it'd be a mistake to give up everything that comes along with having an established brand name. I bet it would end up being a very minimal change, like iShazam.

Maybe they will because it'll get confused with that Sinbad genie movie. :xf.laugh:

When I hear Shazam, my first thought is of Shaq in Kazaam, so that's basically the same thing (except it's real :joyful:). I imagine it's different for people who actually use Shazam though. I can't say for sure because I've never used it.
