Why do you choose domaining as business? I thing it's more lottery than business as you can not have regular profit from this "business", i thing a lot of people choose this business because it's just easy in their eyes to make some profit and double their investment, that's true' but this is not works all the time. So may be better not to loose your time in this business? Especially to newbies? As without budget at least $100k you can not make any seriour investment in domains with return which will be enought for your living without main business or job.

Most people do it as a side investment, not a main business. The first couple of years you lose lots of money and yes it feels like a lottery. Once you've learned, you'll know what to get involved with and what to pass so it becomes less of a lottery. Like any investment, there's risk to it and learning takes time and money. I prefer it over the stock market because I can tell with one look what potential a domain has. With the stock market, there's a lot more to it and the whole thing is kind of rigged anyway. The one advantage that the stock market has is that stocks are a lot more liquid than domains.

Although I take anything I do seriously I look at domaining as a side venture / hobby per say. If I didn't have a primary business to support the playground then I would leave it alone, but that's not the case.

My dad wanted me to have a future so he got me hooked when I was 16.

The days of .com, .net, and .org.

Good times hehe.

Hardly. I was lucky to have a dad looking out for me.

Especially as we've seen lately in these maniacal times, there's always something else to learn and none of it is predictable for sure.

Just try and enjoy the journey. ;)

Good luck to you in your studies. Sounds like you're on the right track for sure.

I've always found it important, and less boring, to have multiple streams of income. But yes, domaining is one of those.

What about you? How are you doing with it?

Mine is Unique.
It all started with a Booze Party. Registered my ex GF full name.com. Someone from the party tipped her. She threatened to sue me with all her connection. Got afraid.Called GD.Somehow deleted that name.

Got hooked on buying/regg domain. Ran to one of the most celebrity Domainer offering to sell my shit domains for million dollars. He not only rejected my offer but gave me tons of free advice. One of the advice was to join NP.
So, I landed here and then thanks to all chinese voodoo have since tripeled my investment.:)

PS: 5 months later my ex GF asked me where is her website? :-o:ahhh:

I was looking into investing in domains since 2011, with that in mind I decided to get some budget, so in 2012 I started my first online "business" (about CPA) from $100 made $1k in 4-5 months then invested again and made like another $3k within 1 year, I decided to quit that "job" because there we're way too much competition already and wasn't fun anymore. In 2014 my brother had a though time and I helped him with some money and he decided to leave country to work in England, shortly I followed him, but not before hand-reg some awesome VR domains, worked with him in same place for like 8 months, it SUCKED, I came back in country with some money like (3k), mostly invested in VR, AR and recently 4l and 6/7n domains and I can't be happier than I am now, even though I have not sold too many domains yet I'm sure there is still plenty of memories to be made, especially in next 2 months, so yhea...domaining was my "dream job" since I was like 17 years old and I can't see doing something else in next 5 years.

Until there is a seismic shift in the mindset of end users toward the value of branding and willingness to pay for a domain name, this industry will continue to be a hobby for most domainers. As a financial professional who sees the spending of companies on all kinds of normal business expenditures, it is kind of ridiculous to see companies so focused on making up a domain name which is available. If you want the best professionals in specific fields, you might have to pay a premium to attract them away from another company. A prime location for a retail store or restaurant is likely going to cost serious money. Executives may fly in company-owned private planes and get all kinds of perks. IT spending, marketing costs and professional service charges way beyond the typical domain sale are normal. But when it comes to a domain name for a new project, let's make up some newbie-quality @#$%! domain for reg fee.

Domaining is becoming very much like a lottery mentality as investors quite often focus on expiring or reg fee domains or new TLDs. If there were a real aftermarket you would see far more domainer to domainer sales well beyond $XX prices.
