I was the last poster and I was both on topic and mature. Its an interesting question and I do not understand why it was closed.

Just because it strayed (like THAT never happens here) does not mean its not worth exploring.

I swear, I do not get this place any more.
I stay away and don't post beacuse of some members making it impossible to discuss .mobi, then the place looks safe to discuss again, and now its the mods closing threads and making comments like:

"Will we ever need MORE .mobi extensions ?

For Gods sake - I hope not ........

Grow up guys !"

What the heck?

Can you move this thread over there? :p

Some people do need to grow up. And some need to stop putting words in my mouth.

What words did I put in your mouth?
Never mind. This is useless.
I am sure you will have a much calmer and quieter .mobi subforum, as I believe anyone who reads this thread and wants to talk .mobi will surely not post a word. I know I won't.

You feel the same way. You think we need to grow up. Thats all of us. All of the .mobi supporters. Simply because we are aggrivated with the way others are being allowed to talk to us and stir the pot. We are not allowed to react to the constant and relentless jabs and flames. We are to sit back and take it because what.. we are investing in .mobi. Since we retaliate, we are immature.

Read that, RJ never said that, You were clearly were trying to put words into his mouth.*

Guys

Mobi thread needs help. I can't talk exactly on deleted thread so I won't.

This thread all ready needs to be closed I think.

All I can say is this. I am glad I am watching everyone. I would be smoking 2 packs a day lol. I took time off from mobi thread and I wish mobi thread would improve.

No right answer I guess

Good luck on this.

I am out. Lol

For someone who is on the fence regarding .mobi, I can very very frankly say that I have received some very hostile reception from the .mobi people anytime I've uttered a single word or even skepticism against it.
There are some great .mobi people like Reece who always have something good to say, and then there are others who are on the lookout for a fight.

mejcdj, I don't understand why the closing of that thread or Mark's comments bother you so much. Going through that thread (and the Bodis thread...but thats something unrelated), I don't get the feeling that we're all professionals here - an image that is very vital to this industry (or any industry for that matter). Hence closing that thread was completely fine with me, and I believe Mark's comments were more of an afterthought, just a harmless remark.

If you want to discuss that topic again, here's my take on if there is any need for more .mobi extensions: .mobi is long enough at 4 characters for an extension, especially one aimed at the mobile market. .mobi.us, .mobi.uk, etc. would be just too long to be practical. Remember we need to be as short as possible with .mobi.
Moreover, we haven't needed any further extensions for .com, and I don't see why we would need them for .mobi. Surely .mobi registrations can never surpass .com.

I think I have always seen people who have lots and lots and lots of .mobi names are always in .mobi's favor :)

Maybe someone thought some guys are again creating a hype on some TLD. That TLD is not even going to see .com from far far behind. And the thread is already out there that will we need other TLD's in it.

I might be wrong. But then I am also itching to open some threads that will there be more TLD's like .watch or .body or .clothes when in future the computers will be integrated in watches and clothes and you can surf your favorite website on your T-Shirts.

Plus reading that whole thread and then coming on here I have almost finished my 5 days of nicotine quota. It was nice of staff to take this so nicely and let it slide for 5 pages. Because as soon as the S$#T started to hit the fan I think that thread was to be closed. The thread subject can be debated but the way the users were addressing each other was totally BS.

Have fun friends. And yes I might not be having a phD on .mobi TLD but there are other rules too. Like giving a founding member some respect.

Thanks.

Friends I am not taking anyones side but I am putting my nose in between this because I know Mark is not like that. I was new over here and on the verge of being banned and kicked out of the forums.

Mark PMed me and I asked for a 2nd chance. He gave me that chance and today whatever I have learnt from here is due to that chance in some way or the other.

But its a forum and people do have different opinions. I just wanted to put mine.

Thanks.

Mark's been very kind and incredibly helpful to me as well whenever I've had a problem I didn't know how to deal with. When he said grow up, I'm sure he was talking about everyone.

I mean really... It's an extension folks! It's not your kid, your mom, your grandma,.. people are bashing here... They're just voicing their opinion on a few letters that happen to not start with c, o, m. They're entitled to that. We have members here who think .mobi is the Second Coming of Christ and look for problems whenever they can. I'm pretty mobi-neutral, I'm sure most of you can agree with that comment. I'll praise a well developed .mobi, I'll congratulate someone on buying a name for under what I feel it's truly worth... I'll also tell someone they overpaid or that I think something is a ripoff if that's how I feel. I had alot of trouble myself with one of those "mobi fanatics" that wouldn't allow anything negative to be said about .mobi in the past.

I really don't understand it all, to be honest. There are people like me who like L-L-L.coms or LLLL.coms... Likewise, there are people that think an L-L-L.com is a poor man's LLL.com, a domainer trophy for the unsuccessful domainer, or that an LLLL.com is for a clueless newb that knows not that most companies have 2-3 letter acronyms.

Don't like .us? I don't. I also don't spend my time on that forum saying that though. You'll never see me enter a .us discussion, even if it happens to end up in the domain name discussion forum that I often frequent.

To me, it demands respect. Everyone should be entitled to put their money where they want -- it's their money afterall. I might say I wouldn't recommend purchasing blah-blah-blah.mobi, or even that it's a poor investment... But that's then end of it. I've given you my advice. You can choose to follow it or not. I won't blabber on for days, weeks, months about it.

And if I did, why wouldn't you just ignore me? Why don't you just avoid threads with my name in them? That's the great thing about forums! It's like having call display on every word that comes out of someone's mouth.

It's your choice to open a thread. It's your choice to be angered by someone's comments. We won't make or break .mobi based on what's said in this little .mobi subforum which has about 100 regulars... So don't take it personal. It's just an extension afterall.

stupidity and childish can be inferred, but for me its about spreading the fruits of research that i conduct and visions that i have.

since i've been a part of .mobi discussion here, a thread could hardly be left untouched without someone saying mobi s*cks or suckers or "m.", etc. One/couple (generous) ensured thaty the theads went wildly offcourse to discuss how the rfp process prevented the ecosystem; then how the auctions prevented the ecosystem and now that basically the ecosystem's dead. appraisal threads were smeared with questions about the ecosystem and sales threads were hijacked politely with questions hinting at lowball price.

hey. a lot of us put many hours a week in NP forum .mobi section. if news is seen abroad on another forum, someone quickly posts it here for investors to see and react as necessary. its unclear why members consistently pegged with eggs over and over again do in fact remain and try there, but we do. perhaps it is out of hope that the subforum could one day give back as much as is put in.

i don't think mej is out of line. this thread is perhaps a little light for flamewars content, but we could give it a go.

nothing against .us, but the .mobi and .tv subsections have a lot to discuss, each represents movements (however viable, however wise, however successful) in integrating the web with some of the biggest aspects of life and commerce.

cmon, childish or a very hardworking group that brings traffic to this site day in and day out; who work together for all kinds of reasons and who will not be pushed around by those pelting eggs. ive been hit over a dozen time, i'm fine. Even Rick was pelted and had to write a diatribe about flowers.mobi. was he whining or acting professional? I think the latter.

RJ... I respect you and what you have done here with NP....

IMHO, if anything, I think Mej is bringing up a valid point that reflects what a lot of us members in this subforum feels in general. I think its more disrespect to just not communicate about any of it to RJ..honesty & communication can lead to improvements.

I'm not agree with that, IMHO :). This kind of "person" is not professional and if I'm a forum owner, I'll remove this member immediately. This kind of "person" that can destroy a great community IMHO.

Yes friend and that is why we have Contact Management section too :) Specially built for that :) You can communicate with staff and solve all that things :)

I was just reffering to some words that were said openly which don't look good.

It all goes back to the concept of respecting other users and treating them fairly. Following the rules shouldn't be that hard, I hope. I'm closing this thread as it is just turning into another bashing thread (something you people in the .MOBI forum seem to be good at).....

From now on, treat each other with respect.... Mark was just doing the right thing.
