I wanted to know what is up with people telling other people expired domain names?

Why would you tell someone else a domain name that is worth money and that is about to expire?

Why not register it yourself?

Why be greedy?
I love helping other people out.
What goes around comes around.
I love the NP$ and rep I get from it.
It helps keep the community a community.
Because I feel like it.

This debate has been going on for a long time. As I see it the people who prob. post these names have no hope in hell at getting them, thus it doesnt hurt them but it most likely hurts others. The one that truely benefits from this is the drop catchers such as eNom, Snap, Pool etc... but who knows.

I have always been for sharing avail. names but not the posting of soon to drop names.

Heck if I seriously wanted a name it would be very foolish of me to tell the world... this is a biz.

Didn't read the line about soon to be available names. I agree that this probably hurts the business in the end, with people bidding up the auctions knowing they won't be able to get the name. I was talking about already dropped names. I like giving those out.

No.1 Reason:
i am not very impressed with the name, but thought may be some one else might be intrested.

No.2 Reason:
I like the name, but don't have a budget.

Any other reasons? well..promoting an extension (ccTLD, TLD ) is possible.

More reasons:

You have a list but can't possibly afford to register them all. Better someone here get it than the big boys like buydomains or another site that puts them in permanant PPC and likely off the market for a very long time.

You like the thrill of the hunt, but don't have the means to register. However, some NP$ could allow you to buy more. Sort of like commission for finding for others.

You have a domain registered in all but one or two extensions. If all extension are registered, it makes the ones you already have worth more, since a retail buyer could no longer get that alternative for reg fee. If someone here takes that TLD version, you both may benefit, since domains taken in all extensions sell better and their popularity shows value.

My reason for contacting them is they usually have the .org, they run a nice little site that helps people, and I usually get a nice thank you e-mail with a story about some guy who held the name over their head for some ungodly figure. I've even registered names to donate to the .orgs cause I liked what they were doing. We have knoledge that others aren't even aware of, and it does come back to you.

What goes around comes around. Post some nice names you're not interested in and sooner or later someone will post some you are.

Ok, I see that a couple people understand what I am saying...
I am not greedy. Matter of fact, I have donated $1000 to help hurricane Katrina victims.

I just think that if you can register a domain name why not register it instead of telling everyone else?

I think everyone Understood what you were saying not just a couple, STX.com dropped not too many here had the $19,000 to buy it or bid for it with any realistic chance of getting it.

If you want to use the business line, any good name that is going to drop anyone who is running a business knows about it, if someone posts STX.com is going to drop Buy Domains, Elequa,Vaxis and every other serious domainer already know.

It is all about your budget. If you have the money to register the domain and you really like it, you will most likely register it. For most cases, contributors find tons of domains that show potential yet they do not have the budget nor feel interested to keep the domain, thus they decide to share it with everyone. And of course, the donations accumulates and entitle the contributor some benefits just like adoptabledomains said. It is always nice to know that some good domains are in the hands of your fellow domainer friends than some bigshot domain companies. :)

It's like others are saying here. I run fairly big queries every day. Some of the hits are out of scope. To much work for just the two of us. So I don't mind to share some findings now and then.
