question Why is estibot used as a go to for domain appraisals?

I am very curious why so many domain auction sites, or people selling use estibot as a go to for free domain appraisals. It seems extremely innaccurate. Sometimes I'll try using 5 different free services and prices will range by tens of thousands appraisals.

Many of us have the same question. ;)

Domain appraisal engines aren't, for the most part, a good barometer.

Just as with tangible real estate, a domain name's value will vary widely, but ultimately it can always be determined by what a buyer will pay for it.

There are some domain names which are of no use or interest to a particular person, whereas that same domain may call strongly to someone else.

Accurately appraising the fair market value of non-liquid domain names involves several factors, and if it were an exact science, I think that most of us would be rich hehe.

Welcome to NP. ;)

Estibot and other free appraisals are mainly for determining a 'rough' idea of how much a domain would be worth to an end user ; not to a reseller.

Estibot appraisals are used to sell domains to inexperienced buyers. NO experienced buyer places much if any value to ANY appraisal, no matter who is providing it. Experienced buyers use historical sales of similar domains, and their own experience, to estimate a selling price. However, even then, the old adage applies:
"Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it."

Because Estibot is better than most people at valuing domains :)
Most people over value what they have (for sale) and undervalue what others have (for sale)

Just think about it for a second. If ANYBODY had a software program that could accurately determine the value of domain names, they would not want to share that information with anyone else, let alone promote it to the masses. So the question you should ask yourself is, why doesn't owner of Estibot buy that hand reg for $10 since his software says it's worth $2,900.00?
