Why does Google make a slight change...

Hi guys, not made a topic in here for a while and i've been meaning to ask someone about this for sometime now so here goes:

basically i use google.co.uk and i've noticed that at certain times the main page is changed slightly, for example one week the google logo may be an entire image 'Google' with a small 'UK' underneath it and another week it may be a split number of 3 images making up the 'Google' logo with 'UK' as text underneath it, other times i've noticed the google logo as a bg image in a div with uk as text over it...

I know you may think i need to get out more noticing stuff like this but it's been happening for as long as i discovered it (about 3 months) and it seems to change on a regular basis of about every 8 days or so.

Any idea why they would do this? is it so that googlebot recognises the homepage as being changed / modified / updated regularly therefore maintains top pr / ranking?

any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated

No friend google's own logo has nothing to do with all other stuff.

It is just for a change as some people might be bored with their normal logo

but it's not a different logo it is exactly the same logo but sometimes it is set as an image and sometimes it is set as a background image, other times it is exactly the same logo but cut into 3 smaller images

if people are bored with the original logo then displaying the original logo as a background image isn't going to make a difference is it

No it isn't But who knows there might be something to it.

I did wrote an article on image optimization and choosing the right type of images.

Cutting it into 3 and then using it is also a good idea. Some times using it all in one is also a good idea. It depends on what they are trying to save. 1KB or 5 KB. Because when we have a site like google itself even 1 KB makes a difference.
