Why are sold names often parked?

Hello everyone. I have been going through domain name sale history to check past domain name sales prices. One puzzling phenomenon I have noticed is that most sold domain names, especially the highly-priced ones, are parked. Why is that after spending thousands of dollars to acquire them? I'm puzzled about this. Please can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Sometimes people buy domains for speculative reasons (to resell them at a higher price). Or they are slow to get the development starting. I am actually stockpiling domain for future use, while they are still available (for registration or for sale).
There may be also other reasons.

Thanks. Slightly thought about the resale aspect.

likely means that your domains have be bought by investor (who now has it parked while waiting for offers or contacting potential end users trying to get for it x times more than he/she paid you)

they park the domains, so they can get statistics on daily visitors.

often these domains have type-in traffic, which converts to a monthly paycheck for many.
