Are any of you guys making real money by parking and selling domains?

I read the article in Business 2.0 about Kevin Ham who owns a portfolio worth $300 million in revenue. It seems like you had to be in this game real early to make anything worth while.

Is the domain name game dead?

Let me know what you guys think.

Well people aren't going to make a lot of money in 5 days, it is dead for the people only out to make a fast buck.

well, its not actually.

I haven't made a ton, but I've made enough in 3 months to keep me going. I am pretty sure that within two years, I will have a steady income from domaining.

I did not have any budget at all. I am a college student, so you know that I survive pretty much on pennies. But still, make some smart choices, and you can make some good money.

Is it too late to make millions? Probably yes.
Is it too late to make a healthy living? Probably not...

Its never too late , just harder. Theres always new words, New Products and the right domain can be a money maker.

I wouldn't agree that it is harder, just different.

Most of the strategies used by new entrants 5 years ago don't work today.

agreed. I've made most of my money in ccTLDs today, while Frank Schilling, someone who started 6 years ago, made his in .coms

Let me just clarify what I meant by Harder. I meant it as if you got alot of the one word domains or really good .coms 5-8 years ago your doing great but now you cant just go out and reg a great .com as easy. Takes alittle work.

Just takes more money now to make BIG money
than it did 5 years ago.

You can still make BIG BUCKS,

but in todays market, it takes big bucks to make big bucks...

which is why the domain game is dominated by
a few select players with deep pockets or
funding from firms backing them.

I think its more than possible to make money still, I have like 20 domains parked at bodis that make from 4-8 dollars a day. Thats over 1500 a year for doing squat on my part. And this is just with new hand regs in niches. If I had 1300 niche domains id have 100,000 a year.

If you took the time to actually develop a domain, or bought domains on auction that have tons of traffic it would be easy. Just now I have started to make some adsense/affiliate mini sites with affiliate sales im sure I can do better than them parked.

Its possible its just not stupid easy as it was in 1990.

Who's making any real money?
I wouldn't make it for 6 years if I wasn't earning real money. Yes and we really earn from ads and reselling domain names. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't.

BTW, Kevin Ham is not or rather, was not a domainer. He is a businessman who found wildcarding unregistered domains to be profitable.

lol in 1990 domains had no value, the world wide web didn't even exist, there was no ppc and there was almost no hope of making money from domains, it is a heck of a lot easier now than it was in 1990!

How many people from the early 90's have actually made substantial money from domain speculation?

Who are these people?, the ones who registered names in 1990 and are selling them now? Apart from the odd person who registered a single domain for corporate usage and has now decided to sell it these people don't exist.

You don't have to blog if you don't want to.
You can create "pages" and just remove initial default blog
and remove few link blocks from side menu.

BTW, why do you want to use wordpress if you don't want blog?

Also, I read it some place that Google started favoring Joomla over Wordpress.

So, perhaps you may want to try out Joomla ;)

Read the Dnj, or the landing page of Sedo. Sedo also has a informative email or any of the other email free subscriptions. Domains are selling for millions and making millions for their owners pretty much daily.

To make money in any business, knowledge is power. Learn how this money is being made and follow those steps and you to can be on the gravy triain.

Domainers are the new stars of the business world. The Wall street news, and most other media are now taking notice. They are calling us the " internet realestate owners".

Sometimes there are slow times, but right now I think domains are RED hot.

How can you say its not harder??? You need tons of money and tons of time if you want to make big bucks in this business today. Catching quality names on the drop doesn't work any more. They now go to the highest bidder. Everyone and their momma thinks their domain is worth 100k, so good luck buying some that are actually "good". While domains might be worth more than ever now, they will also cost you more than ever to get.

I know a guy who bought 85 names in 1994 and has had single sales amounting to as much as 3 million dollars. Pretty ****ing lucky and pretty sweet that one half day of registering domains sealed his financial fate for the rest of his life. None of us will ever be that lucky.

Just curious... Which ones are making the most money for you?

At this point I would definitely take $4-$8 per day. Its a nice start with only 20 domains!

I just started about a week ago and have 38 in my portfolio right now. Its not easy to come up with good names that are available.
