When you think you've seen enough madness with nGTLDs, Shortdot decided to take the madness to the next level with .cyou.

I know Domainers for who we are. We're still going to send millions of dollars down the toilet registering this even at high registry fee.

I agreed I don't know much about this new extension. Maybe there's something in there that is worth looking into. So, who's going for this? And why?

I wonder which genius came up with the idea for the name. I want to see the faces of everyone in the board room that thought it is a wonderful idea and worth throwing money at..
That's exactly my thought. And to think someone sat down and drow a business plan with projections and forecasts for this is beyond me. I was thinking what data did they used to draw the business plan, and how much actually does the extension cost to get?

Someone probably left the meeting early and said..."See you in the morning." And the rest they say is history.

Perhaps the worst extension I have ever seen

Errr, in my opinion there is one that definitely deserves that title over any other, .sucks we are looking at you! What a stupid, useless, ill-advised, negative extension .sucks is. I try to be positive most of the time, but the presence of the .sucks extension is just too much even for mild-mannered me.

But I agree, it seems a strange choice the cyou, and wonder if concentrating on .icu and .bond might not have been better for the company.

So, how does this happen?

I can't help but feel like some wealthy non-tech investor is just being taken for a ride here by consultants or something. "Yeah, totally, you can own your very own version of .com.... imagine if you owned .com? Well, here's your second best chance..."

Their whole thing is short domains, but 2 out of their 3 extensions are 4 letters long...?

Imagine the confusion names like these will cause and make .com all the more valuable. I can hear the room of outbound (widget) sales People - saying "no C like in the letter C see not the word See"

The # is wecyou? Does not sound very private.

Also, .SeeYou would be way better.

imo

But, as ridiculous as this extension looks and sounds, all it would take is just one reported sale, fake or real, and you'd see Domainers tripping over in a stampede to register anything.cyou.

Now that I think of it, I can foresee that .cyou will be hugely successful and will take over the king status from .com only to be overtaken immediately after that by .seeu, .cya, .isee, .icy, .see, .feel and others.

It will feel unfair that it set in motion the growth in popularity of the sensory global top level domains (sgTLDs) only to become the victim of it itself, but no one said life is fair and they should have seen it coming. See you when I see you, dear .cyou. Or not.

looking at cyou on Google with Keyword surfer extension it gives the below results for the USA - and no it is not confusing "you" which has 185,000,000 monthly searches

1,000,000 monthly searches
$1.25 CPC

Why these search figures are so high is beyond me, maybe someone can explain......

It is also the ticker symbol for Changyou Limited (CYOU)

Any correlation?

*don't worry I am not going to be regging any .cyou anytime soon

1. 1 million is the search results, not monthly searches. I hope you haven't made any purchases on that ground with any name )))

2. cpc: maybe, because of being an extension? Compare to other extensions. with thousands of registries, they might be bidding for every extension. If all of them have high CPC, it could be that.

I hope you haven't made any purchase base on this? The search volume and CPC means absolutely nothing for an extension. Unless you're talking of buying cyou.com, that would be the only sensible reason to look up search profile for cyou.
